Description: Considered by many to be Brightons best restaurant, backed up by its status as the highest scoring local dining room in the Good Food Guide, The Restaurant at Drakes is an elegantly stylish setting for any occasion. Subtle lighting casts moody shadows across exposed brickwork and rich colours throughout the intimate dining room while Drakes cocktail bar offers airy sea views and excellent cocktails. The kitchen team insist on the best of ingredients, fresh and seasonal, including fish bought daily from local fishing boats, to create the excellent, refined menu that has earned the restaurant two AA rosettes. A special place, unpretentious in its warm atmosphere, its easy to see why The Restaurant at Drakes has such a reputation.

“Really good...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

A nice quiet dinner in a lovely restaurant. The service was good and the food was also very good. Very cosy little restaurant. Only downside is that there are very few tables and it is a basement restaurant.

“Nearly excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

The staff were most welcoming. Yes as noted - it is a basement room - too bad there's no outside tables for those warm summer evenings. I decided on trying several of the appetizers. Each was good or very good though shy of great -- though I did really enjoy the aspic jelly dessert. Wine list is a lot of old world but one new world gem that was also great. Glad I went.

“Amazing food, but it is a basement!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

This is a place where quality overtakes quantity. The 3 courses we had were fantastic but the purpose of the meal was to see if we could take my son there for his 21st and although the food is excellent, one wouldn't want to eat in a basement with no windows on a summer evening and he would have left hungry. I am not sure why the coktail bar is upstairs and the restaurant downstairs as one lingers over a meal. Having said that, I agree with previous comments, it is superior dining if you can compromise on stting and portions.

“Quality restaurant in Brighton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

On a recent visit to Brighton we had lunch at the Restaurant at Drake's Hotel. Despite a limited lunch menu, we were happy with what we ordered. The chef seems to be using quality ingredients and the overall dining experience was very good. Not the most creative menu but a solid choice for a superior dining experience in Brighton.

“!st class food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

Excellent food and a good selection of wines - the vegetarian menu was also 1st class as was the choice of desserts. We eat late on a Sunday evening but the staff still gave us a friendly welcome and were knowledgeable about the food & the wine
