“You MUST stay here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

This is a jewel of a place to stay in Swanage. Clean and comfy rooms, Mark's breakfasts will definitely set you up for the day. Hilary is a darling hostess, and Dylan the dog will provide anyone missing their animals with the perfect fix!
We stayed for three nights, and will definitely go back for more. There is NOTHING to complain about here. Easy parking, close to town and wonderful beaches, We would wholeheartedly recommend this to everyone needing a place to stay in the area.

Made to feel very welcome on arrival first impressions of guest house were very good on entry even better entrance was bright clean and welcoming with a very friendly dog also there to greet us which was a big hit with the children. Asked if we wanted our bags taken up to our room and made a special effort to chat to our children, room nicely decorated very clean and comfortable, en-suite was spotless with a very roomy shower. breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, dining room was bright and very well laid out, we will be booking again, as there is much more to see and do around the area, situated very close to the beach this makes an excellent place to base yourself to visit all local attractions. When we booked were made aware of checking in times being between 12-1 or after 4pm this did not cause us any problems as this is often the case with guest houses. Would recommend this guest house for both service and value for money as we have paid more for accommodation further in-land and not been as satisfied.

We have been to the Danesfort Hotel a few times and have already booked our return visit for next year! The owners always make us feel very welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. Our children have made use of the large toy box, and have also spent plenty of time fussing over the gorgeous "Dylan" the dog! The adjoining rooms for parents & children are ideal, and the varied, very tasty & filling breakfast always keeps us going for long walks along the beach and through the town. It only takes 10 - 15 mins to walk to the Swanage Railway for a picturesque trip to Corfe Castle. All in all, a very relaxing weekend with the promise of another next year - can't wait!!

A very well located family run b and b. stayed here every October for the last 5 years and love it. Would thoroughly recommend it. The rooms are very well kitted out and there is a well stocked, cheap bar.

Positives

Friendly hosts, off road parking, some rooms renovated to a good standard with great views to the rear over the hills. All rooms were very clean. Close the to east end of the beach and not that far to walk into Swanage in the evening. Swanage B&B prices are high compared to other resorts like Bournemouth, on that basis if you can get this for £70 per night for a double or below in peak periods it is resonable. Although we did not use it there is a 'trust' bar for residents where you help yourself, great idea but prices are on the steep side.

Not so good

Be very careful of the photos of the rooms paricuarly the bathroom. If booking ask if the room you are booking is one of them. The one we had although of a reasonable size had not been decorated for many many years, the ensuite was dingy, dark and just shoulder width wide and you can get better rooms locally for the money.
The Danesfort has a quirky lounge that has a tiny TV , long bench and is not that condusive to relaxing at the end of the day It could do with some investment, design and thought.
Bizzarely when you book you should confirm where you will be eating breakfast as you may be obliged to try and eat breakfast sat in the armchairs in the lounge when they are busy. Forced on them, as breakfast is only available in a 45 minute window so they do not have enough tables.Armchairs are not the right height and spoilt quite a nice cooked breakfast as the seats are far too low. Fresh fruit offering at breakfast was poor.
Lastly ask for any telephone voice quote for a stay by voice to be emailed to you as confirmation, as there was a difference to what was quoted when we booked out. Blamed on us even when subsequently queried.

Hence my ranking of poor.

Very child friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Friendly staff. The location is perfect for the beach, amusements and restaurants. The hotel is a nice family run business with 9 bedrooms in total. The bedrooms are clean and well maintained. The food is lovely and we were really satisfied with our stay. Great location if you want to walk and see the jurassic coast, see corfe castle or just go crabbing by the sea with the kids. Btw the sea is a 2minute walk. We will be going back next year!
