We stopped for the night on our way back to Kent from Devon. Neither of us had been before to Shaftesbury. The hotel has apparently undergone further refurbishment and we were told had just reopened. The booking was a last minute one made by phone from the car. Room 17 was up three flights of stairs. We are thankfully very fit. The room was ln the eaves, large, walls and woodwork decorated with relaxing matt colours which matched the colour of the bed side lampshades. Some clever designer at work! There was a single interesting large picture but a really piddly little 21" (?) television up on the wall. Other than a tiny club chair, there was nothing else in the room except the large modern metal bed and its bedside tables. And very comfortable and excellent this huge bed was. The shower in the bathroom was up on a high tray but without a grab rail inside. Instead of one of the modern overhead gentle showers with its intimate side hand companion, there was the dreaded power shower. There was plenty of room for the hotel designer to have included a bath. Dinner was enjoyable. There is a good chef. Service was attentive. Wines are very expensive: £22 for a bottle of Prosecco? Breakfast was good and we enjoyed sitting at a large table with other guests. Well worth a visit..
