“not brakes brothers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Don't come here if you want 3663 or brakes brothers or some other corporate food industry pre - manufactured muck. This is real food, cooked by a passionate chef. In a world of over standardised product and synthetic hospitality, it is nice to eat food prepared by someone who actually does it himself and is not beholden to kpmg or deloitte - induced cynicism.
I do live locally and have eaten here a few times, but i do not know the owners personally.
Yes it's not rock - bottom cheap, but always a pleasant experience; more in the vein of traditional rural italian/french in terms of food and a distinct lack of ruthless business polish.
If you want genuine, come here; if you want QA - sourced corporate smiles and name badges, stick with McD's, and leave the table spare for me.

“Far Too Pricey!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

My adult son and I visited La Caverna recently on a recent visit to Dorchester, having been recommended by a local resident. A very tiny frontage with what appears to be just a couple of tables which seemed to be inhabited by a chef on his laptop, awaiting instructions. We ventured in and were greeted? by the said rather grumpy man who directed us to the restaurant which is actually in the basement. A dozen tables or so, several other diners present. We were served by a very amiable waiter / maitre d. The menu is quite pricey and something that always annoys me is that all the accompaniments are extra - very cheeky!. We both chose pasta dishes which were just OK, mine was heavily over spiced - very hot! Not much atmosphere, but then it was a relatively quiet night. We would not revisit, as I do not believe it represents good value for money. As we left, said chef was still installed on the ground floor - he grunted to us!

“Worth the bill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

We've been going here for years now and have never had a bad meal, or if we have it was replaced free of quibble and erased from memory so efficiently that only nice memories remain, it's rare i think now days that a restaurant team like those that work here really enjoy serving top quality food and are truly happy if you leave happy,
It's easy to become complacent about a good restaurant like La Caverna - until you visit another one that is bad or even moderate, where the staff couldn't care less about the slops they serve and couldn't care less about you until it';s time for the bill and their anticipated tip , thankfully this is not the case with La Caverna and the extra few pounds on the bill is more than worth it, personally I'd prefer to pay £50 and leave happy than £40 somewhere else and leave wishing I'd never walked in the place to begin with.
Definitely worth a visit - several times in fact to try everything on the menu

“Yum yum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

La Caverna is that little gem of a restaurant tucked away from the high street, and you would never know it was there unless it was recommended or you found it by chance. I am a returning customer, I love the food it's cooked with passion by a excellent sicilian chef. My personal favourite dishes are so defiantly the fish..love your Fritto Miso and its a must try! La Caverna is no doubt the best restaurant in Dorchester, it's quaint and unique with its restaurant seated in the cellar. Thumbs up from me!
