Had dinner here on recent holiday. Good food, freshly cooked, local beers, friendly staff and service. Recommended. You need to book if you plan to eat as it's popular.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2009

I was looking for a reasonably priced place to stay near Dorchester and this hit the mark. Nestled in a village location a stones throw from the giant at Cerne Abbas and a ten minute drive from Dorchester, it is ideally placed to explore the Dorset countryside and coast. The rooms are in the attached coach house and are very well maintainave and have a really nice feel about them. The hosts are welcoming and evening meals (you have to book - it's that good) are superb, as was the breakfast.

The only downer is that the actual pub is closed on Sundays but another local 'The Sun' inn (about a ten minute drive towards Dorchester) does a good selection of food.

In Dorchester avoid the 4 interlinked attractions - Tutankhamun, Dolls museum, Terracotta warriors and Dinosaurs - you will leave very very dissapointed. The Dorset County Museum is well worth a visit. The team shop at the end of the high street does an amazing cream tea.

Attlehamoton house is well worth a visit.

Oh and by the way we chose this hotel as parking at hotels in Dorchester town centre was either limited or non existent

We have stayed here on more than one occasion and love the warm reception that we always receive in this classic country pub. The bar has a selection great selelction of real ales as well as premium lagers and there is always some interesting wines to choose from. The food is of the highest quality with a blackboard of specials, you also have the choice of sitting in the bar area or in a cosy separate restaurant. There is also the beer garden if you would prefer to sit outside. The accomodation is in a converted outbuilding all the rooms are really comfortable with en suite bathrooms, breakfast is always very nice too.
The pub is set in a lovely Dorset village and there are lots of walks near by including Cerne Abbas just down the road.
Can't compliment it enough. We will definately be visiting again.

Lovely unspoilt village location with great walks to places like Cerne Abbas. The Greyhound is Dorset dining pub of the year and deservedly so as the food was excellent. Good range of palmers beers well kept and breakfast was very good.
The thing thar sets places apart is the attitude of staff and at the greyhound they were superb- that unique mix of informality with efficiency, friendliness without being overbearing. Overall would recommend it for a great weekend away from it all.
