“Perfect for a girly dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

This was my first visit to 1812.
As you walk down a long bar on the ground floor of the hotel, right at the back is where the restaurant is situated. Very small and personal, around 10 tables I would guess.
We were shown to our table, promptly seen to drinks and looked over the menu.
The starter I decided on was pink duck & lentils. This dish was very nice but would of been much nicer hot rather than cold.
Our waiter seemed very sure of himself & spoke to us about the dishes before us deciding.
For mains I had the sea bass. It was really tasty!
I would say the portions could be a bit bigger for the price you pay. Also the menu on the website is different to what is actually in the restaurant.
A lot of the desert choices seem to be 'de-constructed' which to me sounds like it has just been laid on a plate with no effort in it. I had the deconstructed rhubarb Eton Mess. It was really nice but yet again was very small portion.
Alcohol is pricey & defiantly bumps up the price of your bill.
Enjoyable meal & nice evening out.

“Fanatastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Had a great night here in January. The food (I had the Beef Wellington) was out of this world and the cocktails are legendary and extremely strong! It's a great venue whether you just want a few drinks or fancy a great meal.

“Great Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Great value three course Sunday lunch. Busy but attentive staff and all courses lovely.Only small negative was that some of our party got their food quite a while before others but the place was packed therefore couldnt probably be helped.

“Chavvy chic...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Odd place with airs of grandeur based on absolutely nothing. Service poor, bartenders in ties, waistcoats and cheesy bar flair (that wasn't actually good flairing). Overpriced draught beers and you can tell that the clientele actually think that they are in the place to be. Imagine a sea of Ben Sherman, fake tan and Primark. Cheap and 80's without the irony. If you like good service, good product and a nice atmosphere avoid the place
