3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2010

We have just returned from a week at this hotel and we were well pleased with it. Our room had recently been refurbished and to quite a high standard. The meals were excellent both in quantity and quality and we could not fault the staff. As we were with a coach party our meals were standard but we noticed that the B & B guests got more choice than us which is understandable as they were probably paying more
.
The only downturn was that the hotel was in a select area - so no shops etc and quite a way from Boscombe - unless you were a good walker. There was a good bus service though into Bournemouth from where you could get to almost anywhere and the bus stop was very close to the hotel.

We experienced excellent service and warmth and hospitality. Food was excellent in Gilbeys restaurant and the breakfasts were wonderful. Especially impressed with the on-going landscaping and the sunny verandahs
Top marks

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2009

My husband and I saw the Gilbey's restaurant menu on the web. Firstly unfortunately this was not now what is on offer. The restaurant now does a "six course tasting menu with some choices" The website desperately needs updating as we had booked on the basis of what we saw. Having said that though, the menu on offer was very similar. The wine list was reasonable and the service very good indeed. My husband was sadly suffering from a bad head cold and so the flavours were sadly lost on him, but as someone with a full set of tastebuds I can safely say that this was one of the best gourmet meals I have had for a long time.

The restaurant is tucked away in the back streets of Boscombe and on the night we dined there was one other external couple like us, and three or four tables of hotel guests dining. Our evening came to a shade under £100 including service and we felt for the quality of food and the service this was very much worth it
