“A good one night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and this was evident from the new double glazed windows in our room, which incidentally provided fantastic sea views. The room itself was large and clean, but very dated (think an elderly relative's spare bedroom) but the owners clearly acknowledge this and are working on it. It was fairly well equipped, with a kettle, shower gels and shampoo etc. The mattress was very soft, so wasn't very supportive to sleep on. Service was great, we received a very warm welcome, and breakfast was quite good, with a vegetarian option.
The biggest negative and let down, was how much noise could be heard from the neighbouring bedroom - it sounded like a party was going on, complete with loud music! Thankfully it stopped by about 10.30pm, but it demonstrated how poor the sound insulation was in the otherwise lovely old building. It was a good value stay in a good budget hotel, but your stay just depends on who your neighbours are!

Having stayed on 3 previous occasions we can see the improvements each time, it's a long term project but they are doing well, the meals are first class, the rooms are clean, but more importantly the staff make an extra effort to make your stay enjoyable,

The Balmoral Hotel has an envious location - next to the BIC and a short walk to the sea front, pleasure gardens and pier. The new owners took over last year, and a programme of refurbishing the tired old rooms has begun. The rooms are all different, for example some have showers only, others have bath only, some have both, so be specific in your room requirements. The rooms, although old, are spotlessly clean, and ours had an abundance of hanging and drawer space, but take your own hairdryer, tissues and (surprisingly) shower gel.

The public areas are very comfortably furnished, and the bar is open whenever you want a drink. Breakfast is very good, with juices, fruit, cereals and any selection of full English items.

No doubt when the rooms are fully refurbished, prices will increase, but currently the Balmoral compares favourably on price with its neighbours.

Room Tip: Be specific in your requirements.

My wife and I stayed at the Balmoral Hotel in Bournemouth recently and really had a wonderful time. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. The rooms were very clean. It's very close to the beach. We would definitely recommend this hotel. We had a very relaxing stay and would go back tomorrow if we could.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a Sea View on the top floor, you will not be disappointed.

We booked a sea view room and were not disappointed. The views were excellent. The room was comfortable and very clean. We stayed in March and the radiator worked quickly with extra blanket in the wardrobe if required. No problem. Had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was fine. Staff friendly and courteous. Very good parking facilities. We appreciate that the Hotel is undergoing major refurbishment. We also appreciate that other rooms may have a walk in shower and rooms may well be allocated on mobility. We are very mobile and were able to use the shower in the bath,( a hook for it on the wall would have been helpful pending its refurbishment). However absolutely no complaint at all considering the value for money for our room and breakfast. The acid test - would we stay at the Balmoral again and in the same room...........YES without hesitation.

This is a hotel on the up. For years the building was neglected, so now the decor is tired and the facilities worn! However, it's clean and tidy and in a location to die for! Just two minutes from BIC and overlooking the town and the sea. Views from the quaint bar and TV lounge are fantastic and from the soon to be refurbished sea facing bedrooms stunning. The new owners are delightful, and they bend over backwards to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. Their aim is to return the Grand old building to its former glory.
We stayed on a b and b basis. The breakfast was well up to standard and offered the choices you would expect in a 3 or 4 star hotel. We were amazed by the value for money tariff.....so much so we've booked for a further two nights in the autumn. We look forward to seeing the progress on the refurbished! One warning - don't bother to book if you're part of a hen or stag group. Also, no coach parties (Yessss!!).

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view - there may be a small premium, but you won't be disappointed.
