I stayed at the Shirley Hotel for a quick get away for my birthday. We arrived quite late, I did phone the day before to tell them so I thought it would be ok.
The welcome was quite frosty, the lady didnt even smile or greet us. We had to use the card machine ourselves to pay with was very bizarre.
We were given a key for the front door and a code to get in the room which was on the 2nd floor.
It was hilarious trying to get in the room - The light in the corridor was on a timer, but was not on long enough to enter the code to open the door. I was waving my arms around to try and keep the light on!
When I finally got the door open I was so dissapointed. The pictures on the Lateroom website
for this hotel must have been for a different hotel. The rooms looked modern and spacious, mine was old, smelly, outdated and dirty.
Breakfast was entertaining the man was just like the waiter the fawlty Towers I had to giggle.
There was not much cereal selection, apparantly the cooked breakfast was quite nice.
The owners had a dog roaming around the hotel, it followed me up the stairs one afternoon and cocked its leg on the ironing facilities - nice!
I would not recommend this hotel.
