“sunday lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

Just had Sunday lunch with my family the staff are very friendly but are never trained to wait clear tables properly drinks always arrive half way through the meal the young waiteresses try to carry too much, start clearing tables before everyone has finished, everyone gets called "guys" and the uniforms are so scruffy jeans and discloured t-shirts! Call me old fashioned but the village are in the service industry where people spend there hard earnt money, with a strong manager to implement some training and ask the chef to keep the servery food hot this place could always be filled as the standard of sunday lunch food is very good and excellence value

Thank you for your positive feedback about the standard of food at our Sunday Carvery lunch and the friendly team members you were served by, I have passed this on to the teams.

I have reviewed the service feedback you have provided in detail with the Restaurant Manager so we can undertake the necessary re-training with the team.

We will shortly be introducing a new uniform to the Restaurant which I know is going to have a positive impact on the teams appearance.

I look forward to welcoming you back soon to see the change.

Just returned from a four night mini break at the village. A great standard room, got into the room early, which was great. Caught the bus into town, bus stops just over the way. Fab pool and leisure facilities which we used every day. have been twice before and will return 10/10 from us.

I became a fan of Village hotels when I stayed many times at Cheadle, so when we were invited to a Diamond Wedding celebration in Bournemouth and we needed a hotel room, there was no decision to make, as the venue for the celebration was less than a mile from the Village Urban Resort! And what a good choice. We booked an UpperDeckDouble which was good value and suited our needs. We had dinner in the restaurant. That was really good and the service was excellent. Jack and Charlotte were prominent in looking after our needs and Tom added to our pleasure with some interesting information.
We would certainly choose this hotel again.

We visited The Village on Saturday night for a friend's birthday, and were so grateful that we decided to stay elsewhere. Friends showed us round their rooms which were very average (more suited to a Travellodge tbh) with noisy aircon and pretty lumpy mattresses.

The food at the function we went to was appalling - am amazed we weren't ill afterwards, and while the bar prices were reasonable, the wines on offer were, quite frankly, vile - I wouldn't pickle onions in the vinegar being passed off as white wine for £20 a bottle.

Other hotels ARE available in Bournemouth - I'd check them out if I were you.

We can find no record of issues with the food at the event you attended, and it certainly is not in keeping with events of this type held at the hotel. We have contacted the event organiser directly to obtain some more details so that we can investigate. Thank you for your feedback.

Paid £175 for night in top deck floor 5 (sort as advertised as biz class), we had to wait at for the only lift on every trip up or down, the room was small, the air conditioning was noisy-which we only discovered at night-so no sleep, the free wi-fi after signing up ( i imagine for marketing) was sluggish and keep throwing you out (this was in the room and all around public areas) saturday evening went down to the spa/gym/pool and clearly this is sold to the local body building club as packed with eastern european meat heads, the next morning went for breakfast and another line up but looking around this looked like a bun fight so left and, carpets in the public areas were stained, I would pitch this as a frankie/bennies/travelodge meets lego land on a sunny bank holiday...

We take all feedback seriously and regret on this occasion we have not met your expectations.

The hotel has been experiencing a connection issue with its wifi connection which BT is currently working on a solution for. The issue will be resolved this week.

Clearly we were not performing to standard during breakfast service and I have reviewed your feedback with our Restaurant Manager in detail.

We welcome your constructive feedback about the bedroom and public areas and we have used this to make some necessary improvements.

Stayed here in June the rooms are comfortable and include free wifi. Food was average at best.
Location is too far out of town for me, I would not reccomend this hotel for anyone that likes to go out into town. Otherwise not bad as a base.

Thank you for your positive feedback about our comfortable bedrooms.

It is disappointing to hear that you did not find our location suitable for your needs, the bus terminus and taxi rank opposite the hotel entrance can provide quick and easy access to the seafront and town centre throughout the day and evening.

I hope this will not prevent you from returning to us in the future, I look forward to welcoming you back soon.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014 via mobile

We booked a 5 night family break to explore some of the sandy Dorset coastline. Having stayed at village hotels several times around the country, we knew what to expect for our money and what not to. Hence this is an informed and balanced review.

The positives of our stay include: the leisure facilities - we made full use of the pool and 'family swimming times'; a decent sized room; a filling breakfast with a good range of items on offer, a good location and overall a friendly staff. The housemaids in particular are efficient, friendly and clearly very hardworking. There was also a 'kids club' in terms of set activities that you could accompany your children to.

On the down-side, we had to wait 25 minutes for our room on check-in, despite having arrived an hour after check-in (3pm). Our 3 children, with plenty of energy to burn after a long-drive, went into bonkers-mode: we waited in the reception area and started spending (Starbucks) before we'd even unpacked. Not the best start.

We've learned from experience not to eat in the on-site restaurants - in our view the food quality is appalling - and this appears to be supported by many other TA reviews, and the meal prices are on a par with many 4 star hotels. In this respect the restaurant is punching way above its proverbial weight. We gave the bar food a whirl for tea one evening. A bonus being that a child eats free with each adult. Only this didn't turn out to be a bonus in that 2 of the meals (pizzas, freezer-to-oven sort - but that's not an issue per se) were burnt to the point of being black on the underside and rock-hard. And yet they were still served? When I informed a member of bar staff she seemed more interested in pointing out that it was a free meal than she was in listening to me explain that I'd have to make a trip off-site in order to find an alternative meal for our children. This said, she was polite and smiley with it.

The rooms are in need of TLC - the carpet in our room was very stained, the grout in the bathroom grotty in places, and the rubber seal on the shower screen was hanging off. Within a few minutes of unpacking I had to call reception to ask for a clean blanket for the sofa bed as the one in place was literally covered in stains. The sofa-bed cushions were in a similar state.

The Starbucks on-site offered a limited range of sweet items and often ran-out of items. The service, however, was good.

The carpets and walls on the stairs and landings are really grubby and require a fresh update.

Hence overall we got less than we've come to expect from village hotels. The location is good, though we are very unlikely to return to this hotel in the future or to recommend it to friends or family.

Thank you for your positive remarks about our Leisure Club, Breakfast, Team Members and our holiday Kids Club that we are running throughout the summer.

I was sorry to read about your experiences at check-in and also with the food in the bar, clearly we were not performing to our normal standard at these times and I have reviewed your feedback with both our Reception Manager and Head Chef. Thank you for your feedback and I hope we have the opportunity to demonstrate our normal levels of service in the near future.
