2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2009

We booked this hotel as we were going to a gig at the BIC. The main reason for the choice was the location.

The hotel is undergoing some redecoration, but it extremely tired and very outdated. It looks like something from Fawlty Towers from the 70s!

The staff were very helpful, and the breakfast was good, but as I stay in hotels all week I feel I am more than qualified to say that I thought that £60 was about three times too much.

I'm sure the hotel will be better when finished, but with so many options in Bournemouth I wont be staying again.

An awful experience. How does this have a 2 star rating ? Decor throughout was the worst I have seen anywhere. The " lounge " was small & depressing and the single room shabby & in need of modernising. Also the staff were unfriendly & obviously didn't enjoy their work. The overall standard was really poor & it would be hard to enjoy a holiday here. The hotel brochure bears no resemblance to this hotel at all. After 2 nights a new location became necessary & was acquired . Thankfully it was totally in contrast wih The KIWI. .............GK Bedfordshire

We stayed one night here, good location, walkable to the beach, but thats it.
In desperate need of refurbishment, poor service, not gleaming clean! didnt try breaky, so cant judge food.

typical UK 1 to 2 star hotel, would stay here if we were desperate, but not for more than one night!

I stay in hotels all over the world, I know good from bad, this hotel isnt the worst on the earth, but dont expect The Intercontinental!

A mature relative has stayed here twice on a coach holiday using the hotel as a base from which to see family.
The hotel decor and furniture is very tired but the service and food are good and the whole place is spotless. My relative's special diet was taken care of and everyone was friendly and efficient. The hotel is conveniently located close to town and beach. The single room we viewed was adequate, not a box, and it had a chair and large window.
If you are want contemporary style this is not the place for you but the DBB rate is worth a try if you want a value for money break. The area is known for groups so can be lively at night outside.

I usually prefer to stay in 3* or 4* hotels but the hotels I tried in the area were either fully booked or charging exhorbitant prices, so with our small budget we thought we'd try the Kiwi Hotel. Having never stayed in a 2* hotel, I was nervous as to what to expect - I needn't have been. Although the entrance area looks very 1970's and the dining room decor will stay in my memory for a long time, the staff manning reception were very polite and friendly. Our room was clean, had a double bed, t.v wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet and a kettle with a supply of tea and coffee (and even peppermint tea) - The furniture was basic but adequate. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom suite (shower, w.c and sink) looked new. In the morning we had a lovely cooked breakfast with quality sausages and bacon. Again the staff were polite and attentive.
Okay this wasn't the Highcliffe hotel, but I can honestly say that for value for money the Kiwi hotel was definitely the better option.

spent 1 night, good service and well worth the £30 we paid for the room. Yes, it needs some modernisation, but you get what you pay for - and the fact that there is free parking available is an added bonus
