“A lovely stay ...but slightly haphazard restaurant service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

We stayed in the ground floor pier family suite which was lovely and spacious . Lovely clean linen , comfy beds and well appointed bathroom. Downside was in very hot weather no a/c or room fridge though a fan was provided. The pool though dated and a little tired was wonderfully warm , and the hotel itself is just across from the beach . Free parking and free ice cream and juice for under 12s was an added bonus. We paid £304 for 2 nights B and B for 2 adults and a child which for August in Central Bournemouth in a 4star hotel was great value. Breakfast lovely and evening meal good value at £22 for 3 courses. Evening food service was a little haphazard ...ie on the first night our first choice of wine was unavailable and the replacement finally arrived as we finished our main courses, and the next night there was a shortage of menus so they were whisked away before ordering and we had to remember what we wanted when the waiter finally came to take the order. .....plus we were told dishes were unavailable to then find they weren't when ordering with a different waiter. Small inconveniences and overall a great value stay , we will need to return to the area and will have no hesitation in rebooking.

Room Tip: Ground floor pier suite lovely with partial sea view .

We stayed in the East Cliff for the 5th time in the last 18 months and we are very fussy people. Its become our second home. The reception always greet you with a warm smile. Our room on this occasion was 1105 a sea view with balcony. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. There was a small problem with the shower knob but that was rectified within the hour.
All the staff are courteous and friendly. Compliments to the assistant managers David, Roberts and of course Natasha. The General Manager Paul is very hands on and when he is in the lounge and sees a coffee cup or glass out of place, he will move it himself and not instruct someone else to do it. Its nice to see a Manger take such pride in his hotel. The restaurant staff are also very friendly and nothing is to much trouble. Can't wait to go again in September. Oh by the way. The weather was fantastic.

Got here on an urgent business trip and so the hotel was better than my expectation. The room is nice and clean, lovely decoration and comfortable bedding. Only some minor points: no A/C and the windows are locked i.e. quite hot in summer, no toothpaste/brush, the single bed is a bit small even though the room is spacious. Not sure if this is because I had the dinner quite late and they had run out of ingredients, but the burger in the downstairs restaurant was quite terrible with only steak and cheese (no vegetables!) inside. Somehow it reminded me of McDonald's. Overall, I would have given a 4/5 star had the staff not looked so puzzled when I asked for an invoice. As stated above, I was on a business trip so this was fairly important.

Overall I would still recommend this hotel to those looking for a holiday nearby the Bournemouth sea. Despite all these problems, this is still a lovely hotel with very helpful and friendly staffs.

we chose this hotel on the strength of its reviews on here after cancelling another due to poor reviews and we weren't disappointed. We had a room with a balcony and superb views of the sea, the room itself was comfortable and clean, very relaxing to wake in the morning hearing the waves on the shore. The breakfast was superb, a full english with all the trimmings. We spent most of the hot weekend on the beach and ate out so I can't comment on any other meals but it was a pleasant surprise to come back in the evening to sit down in the bar with a pianist playing! Access to the beach is only moments away from the hotel itself so no driving around looking for car parking either and the hotel's own swimming pool proved warm and pleasant too. All in all a superb place to spend a while, we wished we were there for longer!

Room Tip: Finding a room with a sea view and a balcony is well worth the effort

The hotel was great, however when we arrived they did not have our booking and receptionist was a bit standoffish about it; having all my docs / receipt from Travel Republic they referred to manager while we sat and waited! Twenty minutes later (yawn! although a very nice young man did ask if we were ok, the only polite person on arrival!) another lady appeared and checked us in with no apology; it all had been sorted so we do not know where the problem arose! We were given a very nice, large room whether that was to make up for the disappointing reception we don't know, however it was very pleasant. We ate in the restaurant with our daughter and partner, who were staying at another hotel whilst competing in a national competition held at BIC. The food was nice, however we ordered a bottle of rose wine but had finished our starter before we had to remind them we had ordered wine which was then hastily collected and the very warm bottle of wine was plonked in an ice bucket by our table.....no apology or pouring of the warm wine!! My husband ordered apple pie and custard for dessert... well freezing cold apple pie and custard Yuk! We asked for it to be warmed and the waitress came back with another one which my husband put his hand on to feel it, freezing cold again, then the waitress realised it was for another table and served it to them after my husband had touched it Yuk again!! We were then served a warm apple pie but had to ask for the custard!! Certainly not the service expected from a 4 start hotel! You get better service in a run of the mill chain restaurant! Bed was comfy, room was quiet and breakfast delicious :) Would loved to have stayed longer at this seemingly very nice hotel just to see if the waiting staff improved however we were only there for the one night for the competition. Hotel is beautifully situated just out of town and would give it a second chance.

Room Tip: Room 1029 very nice, comfy and quiet

As a regular visitor to Bournmouth I have to rate this hotel as very good value for money. The room had a sea view which i didn't expect. There was a heated outdoor pool a comfortable bar with a pianist and as we'll as breakfast my booking included a superb evening meal, yes very good value and no additional charges for parking, unlike some hotels in bournmoyth. Book direct though it was £20 dearer on booking.com

Our experience over the past five days at the East Cliff has been positive. Modern surroundings, well stocked bar, quiet and relaxing in the evening with a fabulous pianist one evening. The breakfast which we ate in the restaurant was self service food plentiful and well stocked up no wait at all for beverages. We ate dinner twice in the hotel during our stay as we had booked B&B only. Dinner was a good choice in terms of menu and the food was of good standard and presentation. We ate lunch a couple of times out on the terrace food was of very good standard and presentation. All of the staff were pleasant and friendly and were very helpful. Our room was booked as a double, however we had a large spacious room with a queen sized bed, room modern and very clean. The bathroom tiles were obviously old however clean. WE would definitely stay at the East Cliff again. Ms Cowburn, Durham.
