Restaurants in department stores used to provide decent good value food as a 'thank you' for customers and a break from shopping. House of Fraser in Bournemouth was the most disappointing experience we have had for a long time. My wife and I went in for a snack lunch and a hot drink on a Monday lunchtime. The place was not very busy, so there were no excuses. Soup of the day was indeterminate - with a vague flavour of cabbage and a coarse texture (possibly liquidised pulses). A barbecue pork and sweetcorn panini was cooked(?) in a few seconds and not particularly warm - contents were extremely meagre. Filter coffee and a cappuccino lacked any kind of flavour (apart from a taste possibly of the detergent used to clean the machine for the cappuccino) and again, lacked heat. Apart from the vew from the window and sunshine on a cold day, we would have done better to have gone to one of the fast-food outlets nearby!
