Where do I start? This 'hotel' ruined the weekend I was so looking forward to. We parked up and should've listened to our instincts and left then. The outside building looks shabby. Do not be fooled by photos. We entered the building and it did not get any better - but worse as the hours ticked by. The inside of the hotel was shabby and looked cheap. The interior of our room was OK in all fairness, the bed was nice, the TV was nice, the other furniture was OK but a bit dated. But it was not clean. We couldn't even have a much-needed cup of tea as one of the mugs had a long hair and yellow stuck on stains inside. Yuk. The carpets were disgusting. Even the complimentary hair and shower gel was dissapointing - one empty bottle sitting on the shelf.
As the bed was comfy, we were looking forward to a lovely night's sleep. Well, that didn't happen. The room was HOT. No air con or fan at all, and we couldn't open the windows as our 'view' was the hotel's machinery. Which as you might imagine, is noisy. For £130 a night you'd expect better than that.
But would you believe it, worse was waiting for us in the restaurant. Breakfast. We stood around waiting for what seemed like hours to be shown to our table. When someone finally came over we were rudely told 'you're table isn't ready, wait in the bar.' !!??!! No 'how are you,' 'did you sleep well' - not even a simple 'hello' - nothing. The food itself tasted good when we finally got it, but the service was appalling. Instead of serving us, the staff stood around chatting in their own language, until someone finally decided to (literally) slap some food onto our plates. Oh, and on burning hot plates - good for keeping your food warm, but not good for the safety of your skin. Ouch. Thanks for the warning - not.
The staff looked at us like we were from another planet. The looks we got, I wish we took some photos...I don't know how to put it in words, it was NOT how you'd expect to be treated at all. Disgraceful.
So following this delightful breakfast, we went to speak to the manager. We then find that the leisure club, the main reason why we chose this hotel, was closed due to flooding. Fair enough, not their fault there, but it would have been nice to have been told upon check in. Our conversation with the manager was far from pleasant. Well, 'I know my staff' he says. His rudeness tells me that he trains them to work like this. Laughing, honestly, at our complaints. 'That could be anyone's hair.' 'It's not my fault.' We were paying to stay in his hotel, yet we got treated like criminals. I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but I thought you are meant to treat your customers like royalty - the customer is always right!!
We went for a relaxing break. Relaxing it was most certainly not.
What's more, we were booked in for a further night. Well, it was a fight to get our money back for the next night we certainly did not want to stay for, we were given many excuses, the best being how they didn't have any of my money and the booking company had it - how I do not know as I paid by card upon checking in, and the booking company do not take any money. The service at this place ruined our weekend, and I don't want to waste any more time thinking about this 'hotel' - rather, prison. I do NOT recommend.
Do not book at all is the best tip.
