“Excellent staff but hotel tired and room disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

My Wife and I and 2 other friends stayed for 2 nights in 2 rooms booked through Booking.com. We would like to pass on our comments on our stay.

We were impressed with all your staff and their standards of customer service which were very good. They appeared enthusiastic and friendly and are a credit to your Company.

We were very disappointed with our room however. This was on the top floor and was very hot and claustrophobic with little natural daylight as it only had a very small window. Even the corridor outside was only half the width of the ones on the lower floors. The roof eaves protruded into the room serving to increase the effect. The furniture did not compliment the room, was on the large side, and resulted in a standing lamp being in the way.

We found the bed to be far too soft and meant that we could not sleep properly giving me a bad back.

When the heating came on in the early hours, there was a pronounced bubbling noise from the radiator, and then a constant noise of running water. This kept us awake. The water pressure in the bathroom was poor and the extractor fan was also noisy. When we tried to select BBC Radio 4 on the TV it would not connect, despite several attempts.

We chose your hotel because it is on the sea-front with good views over the cliffs. Yet, no mention was made of the fact that the hotel kitchens were being refitted when we booked. This meant that on the Sunday morning, we had to eat breakfast in the Dorchester room which has no windows and no natural light. This was depressing and far from enjoyable.

We did mention our disatisfaction on checking out, but as we were with friends, we did not want to spoil the stay and cause embarassment. We both work in the travel industry, but we specifically did not want to mention this when booking as we wanted to be treated like normal customers.

Our room was awful and we felt that we definately received poor value for money. We have stayed at many hotels including the Green House Hotel in Bournemouth, which has far superior rooms and decor. By comparison your hotel is a little tired to say the least.

We hope you can accept our comments in a constructive and objectice way. As we have said, your staff were excellent, but we do not have good memories of the rest of our stay and would struggle to return in the future.

Room Tip: Stay away from the 4th floor - advise you check out if given a room here

Very comfortable and well located hotel along the cliffs of Bournemouth. A great view and a nice start for walks along the cliffs and the sea. The hotel has well furbished rooms with beds that are very comfortable and the overall equipment is of very good quality. The hotel consists of a main building and an annex. I always stayed in the annex so far but it is well connected with the main building which allows paying a visit at the hotel’s bar or restaurant without going outside. The list of beverages proposed at the bar is very interesting and large. The restaurant proposes very good quality food. On the areas for improvement, the corridors needs a bit of refreshing and the sound proof is not ideal between rooms. The breakfast is outstanding with large choice of traditional warm English breakfast and of continental proposals.

stayed here twice and found it very warm and welcoming.
despite reading some of the comments here, I found the rooms to be very charming with a bit of a vintage flair.
I know not all rooms are alike, I happened to spend one night in a totally different aisle of the Hotel, long walk through hallways and corridors and a view onto the backyard and a parking lot, but I guess it is a matter of luck as the sea views are really nice.

We stayed here for just one night - as visiting supporters for an away side. Arriving at the hotel parknig was easy and the reception warm and welcoming, with the staff greeting us with smiles and offers of assistance. We were upgraded (I'm Marriott Paltinum so it's expected) and had a sea view room that was very comfortable. The hotel is an odler building perched on top of the cliffs overlooking the sea. The view is lovely and it's a short walk into the town and ther are many places to eat and drink nearby.

The hotle has a large gym, spatious restaurant and warm bar. THe room was comfotable with good worknig internet - the only "hitch" being the bath/shower combination which is dated now but you have to remember the hotel is an older building.

Staff wise they were simply excellent, from reception, bar staff, breakfast staff (the sausages deserve speical mention!) and managmenet was we met them around the hotel.

This was a functional visit for a single overnight stay, but its impressed us enough to arrange a couple of days in summer.

I booked a standard room for a Saturday night in January. When I checked in I was 'upgrade'd to a cottage room - this involved a trek to an adjacent row of old cottages. The small room was cold, heater didn't work, windows were drafty and the bath was chipped and grubby. After complaining I was moved to a larger, warmer, cleaner room in main hotel. Unfortunately, despite paying £120 for the room I had to pay additional fees for parking (£10 per night) and breakfast. The room was lovely but I don't think this was good value!

Room Tip: I had a sea view and as it is south facing this was great to wake up in on a sunny morning.

Arrived after a long day, the welcome at checkin was very friendly and efficient and I was allocated a lovely room (305) with a seaview. The room was a great size with a huge really comfortable bed. I ordered room service which arrived within 25 mins, hot and accurate and the waitress was very polite. Gym facilities are good. So all in all great value hotel I would recommend.

Room Tip: Rm 305 was great

I went there with my wife for weekend break from london in july 2012. Hotel is right on cliff overlooking sea so it is on great sight and excellent beach. Service was overall good but we were told that we would get beach view suite but event it was not full they denied for no reason. Facility wise it was good hotel and marriott standard but not felt it is not great value for money as many better option available in the area if you are willing to pay similar price.
