“It's only a 3 star, great staff, great food, hotel a little tired”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

Had a week's stay here, bed breakfast and evening meal with my mum and 4 year old daughter.

Staff really friendly and couldn't do enough for you, buffet style restaurant, food was great.

This hotel is getting a little tired and needs some tlc, swimming pool and softplay very handy.

About a 10-15 walk to sea, hotel based in between Boscome Pier and Bournemouth Pier nearest to Boscombe Chine.

Managed to park in hotel which was free, didn't need to use car all week which was great.

If you are looking for a 3 star hotel not far from the beach I'd come back. Some renovation work bring carried to to some of the rooms.

Booked into the Carrington House hotel Bournemouth for 2 nights. 20 th/21st July 2014 having requested an accessible room for a wheelchair user in advance.
On arrival found my way into the hotel by a side sloped entrance used by the cleaning staff and the on site builders. Front entrance was not wheelchair accessible ,having negotiated my way through the corridors and works in progress eventually was able to access the front desk via a precarious ramp that appears to have been put in as an afterthought - steeply sloped and would not have been able to negotiate without the help of my wife.
We were offered room 16 , the receptionist assured us this was a wheelchair accessible room , having made are way to this room we where unable to negotiate the corridor as it narrowed just before the entrance to the room and was not wide enough to take the wheelchair.
Returned to reception, explained this to the receptionist who appeared quite disinterested in the situation and after some time offered us an alternative room . Room 102- reassured again that this would be accessible . Having negotiated the precarious ramp, lift and several doorways without any offer of help from the staff we made are way to room 102. Yes at last we could get in the room but ... Wheelchair would not fit through the bathroom door (wheelchair is a standard size!). Returned again to reception, still no apology , receptionist blamed the Britannia Central reservations for the problem and took no responsibility whatsover. Finally managed to speak with the manager who still could not manage an apology but after asking him how we would be able to find a wheelchair accessible room at this time of the evening he offered a staff member to ring round other hotels . After several attempts a bedroom was located at another hotel owned by Britannia - Heathlands . The saga continued at Heathlands - please see my review on Heathlands .very bad experience !also interesting to note Annie's horror story ,very similar to my experience and on the same weekend .

Room Tip: Don't stay here if you want a wheelchair accessible room .

Hi
I booked the disabled room on the ground floor - by phone, first with the hotel, then with Brittania Central. When we (me, my sister and my Mum who is 86 and uses a wheelchair) got there the desk told me that the room I had booked was not available. They finally found us 2 linked rooms on the first floor opposite the lift. That night the lift was broken. The next day the disabled access on the ground floor was out of action because of building works. Despite the room brochure stating they did room service, they kept telling me that they didnt. Hopeless, my complaint letter is in the post to the manager, will see what the response is. BUT AVOID THIS HOTEL

Room Tip: Book a different hotel

Do not stay here we stayed here one night with two young children one 20 month old and a 4 month old was hard work trying to get our luggage and children to our room which like all family rooms was on the 3rd (top) floor although the are lifts you have to swap lifts and walk around to get to them staff instructions are not clear. Room was dirty shower was not worth having just dripped hardly any water come from shower was like standing out side in the rain, although the was a car park half of this was blocked of due to a school prom using the hall there half the cars were not guest we had no were to park when we asked staff they did not care and told us to park on the main road which was double yellow lines had no concern for the safety of us and our children Breakfast don't even go there was filth all of it was over cooked oily and foul as for a breakfast for my 20 month old the was nothing for him they offered him porridge that looked like my 4 months old threw his bottle up again he took one look at it and refused to eat it and I don't blame him. At the end of the day this hotel is a dump travel lodge are cheap losers but they are 10 time better then this !!

Room wasn't all that. Comfy bed, otherwise dirty. Dust and cobwebs everywhere. Cigarette butts all over the floor bathroom and main room. Showers hardly work. Mould all round the skirting and windows. Reception staff are rude to say the least. Couldn't give a flying monkeys about their customers. Finally, the food was horrendous. Fried eggs swimming in oil and crispy. Bacon rock hard, sausages foul and dry just like all other items. The orange juice was very sweet and cheap. Milk was warm and tasted sour. I stay one night and it was one night too many. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

We went for a Spring Break with Just Go travel and every single person who stayed there from our coach were going to complain. Dirty, noisy, dreadful food and entertainment. Half full of foreign student who also disliked the food. No staff to clean the tables. The place was like a building site, so many alterations needed doing it will take years. No hot water or heating in March. Just Go couldn't care less. They did reply to say they were looking into it five months ago, still no apology, part refund NOTHING. Had our money but still promoting he hotel after all our complaints. Dreadful Hotel and do not use Just Go Travel.

Room Tip: Do not go.

I recently spent two nights in this hotel along with my daughter and her friend and her daughter. We were in Bournemouth for the Future Cheer International competition, and booked the hotel based on the convenient distance to the beach, the 'free wifi' and the heated pool open from '7am - 10pm'. We arrived later than anticipated due to traffic travelling down, and our daughters were not best pleased when we arrived and they were told that the pool actually shuts at 8pm, meaning that they could not go in it, and were abruptly informed that the website and the guest books in each room have simply not been updated - not good enough.

Following this, when we reached our room, the toilet seat was practically hanging off, one of the lights did not have a cover and was just a lightblub with a load of wires, one of the headboards had fallen down and had left sharp screws hanging in its place, which could have caused injury if accidentally touched during the night, and the lamps were an electrical hazard.

The hotel was under construction everywhere you looked which was NOT mentioned on the website, or even to us when we checked in, and it seems as though we were not the only unhappy customers as each time we walked through reception a different person was complaining, and the response given to each of these people by the staff there was rude to say the least. They clearly could not be bothered to do their job properly and therefore chose not to.

Fortunately we didn't have to spend much of our time in this hotel. We will NOT be staying in this hotel again, and would definitely not recommend it to anyone.
