“Nice hotel, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

Really nice hotel with friendly staff. Room was spacious and clean. Food in the restaurant was good, likewise the breakfast provided. The pool was nice and warm and hotel positioned in good location. Would definitely go back. Never gave 4 stars as problem with toilet flusher but got sorted in good time.

We were a part of a wedding party group
So had booked our room well n advance
We arrived at 1 sh and told our room wouldn't be ready before 3
fair enough
when we got to the room it was awful
it was on the 3rd floor an attic thing
the bed was behind the sloping roof with a wall in front of it dark and airless
No aircon for the price thats no good
the windows were all sealed down so we asked for some one to come and open them as it was boiling hot up there he did this but then we couldn't shut them again later when rain was pouring in

the room was so badly arranged
the door to the bathroom hit the door to the miiniscule shower cubicle
Our wedding party group met in the hotel bar for drinks where water was pouring out of the ceiling and lighting fixtures

water was dripping through the ceiling and light fixtures in the reception area as we waited to check out
Happy to have left never ever again to return

Room Tip: Just don't waste your money Better to crash on the beach or pavement

Stayed at the Norfolk on 8th August 2014 and it was not pleasant check in was not until 3pm which was a little late for my liking. During check in a manager asked the receptionist to do something completely different and she tended to that while trying to multitask my check in. The manager seemed completely oblivious to the fact that a customer was being dealt with.
We got into the room to find it sweltering, none of the lights appeared to work and eventually we found the device you had to put your card key into to illuminate the room.
We tried to phone reception to change our room (301) but there was no answer.
eventually I decided to have a shower but while in there, the shower valve turned on its own volition and the water came out scalding hot.
The bar charged £4.50 for a draught Pepsi and water which I felt was poor value for money.
Breakfast was good and the staff were helpful.
On checkout I was asked whether I had enjoyed my stay. When I told the receptionist that I hadnt she called the manager. He listened and agreed the room was too hot in the summer and also added its too cold in the winter. He thanked me for my feedback and explained that they could not put aircon into the rooms due to planning restrictions.
The receptionist then refunded our £13 parking charge and we left.

We arrived at 3pm exactly after a long journey, however our rooms were not ready. 25 minutes later we were told that the room is ready, but given no direction on how to get there and no help was offered with our bags. Not a good 1st impression. The room was OK but had a TV that is perhaps older than I am!! We booked out a suite but it was full of dust & everything just appeared dated & old. The bed was OK but the floor boards were unbelievably noisy. We couldn't walk across the room without waking up the kids in the other part of the suite. Every time someone moved upstairs you can hear it & we couldn't sleep at all. There was also this ventilator or fan that was very noisy. At night all you can hear is floor boards & a very noisy fan, which was driving us crazy, it was that loads. The kids & us could not sleep for 3 nights. With no other rooms available, it was a nightmare! The breakfast was OK but rushed. The staff were trying to be helpful but they were not coordinated at all. Paul the general manager was fantastic in helping us organise our day & helping with travel & research etc.
in general a dated old hotel that needs to improve on the quality in order to justify 4 star prices!

Room Tip: AwY from the fan & buzzing ventilator

We have stayed at the Norfolk royal 4 times before and each time enjoyed our stay. This time we payed a little more than we wanted too. All of the staff especially the bar, restaurant staff were exemplary. Great hotel would like if car parking was included for dinner, bed and breakfast customs.
Would highly recommend

Stayed for a night and was very pleased with the room. Stayed in a family room for four, which had a lovely queen sized bed and two foldaways. There was tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided in the room, just what we needed after long day out. Ensuite shower and bath was lovely and clean with plenty of complimentary toiletries. Staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. Location is perfect as it's just 5 minute walk from the town centre and the beach...which can be reached via a nice stroll through the park.

Arrived at the hotel with a friendly welcome, although parking is not inclusive of my room rate, considering of what the hotel costs it should be included to make you feel more looked after? We went up to our room after parking and was pleasantly surprised with big Telly and soft white bed sheets. Decided to explore Bournemouth and eat out as the restaurant as it looked rather sparse and lacking personality. Had a lovely nights sleep decided to have a shower which was extremely hot! Called down to reception and a member of staff come to look at it, and was extremely hot when I left... Really needs looking at. Of course I don't want a cold shower but I don't want to scald my skin whilst showering. The towls stank of vinegar which I felt was odd... I know that's how you keep them white but still wash them after? Breakfast was nice although a served breakfasts would be nicer as it would show that bit more quality more than pigs at a trough. Something like scrambled eggs and salmon or eggs Benedict would be top notch! Although the coffee was lovely. We would stay again as hotel is convenient although needs more personality and a better breakfast offering.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor and overlooking the gardens.
