“Fantastic views....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014 via mobile

Stayed at the Cottonwood Boutique hotel purely for the views and the quieter location it offers.
I would agree that the hotel is probably trying hard to boutique itself but shocking pink is more kitsch than boutique..... Style is more Dubai chic than boutique!!
Fantastic food, small but well chosen wine list and superb panoramic views helped complete an enjoyable stay... Aided by some remarkable weather!!
We recommend the hotel to others looking for well priced, accommodation in a quieter location just a short walk from the town centre.

The decor didn't live up to expectation, more kitsch than boutique. The only attempt to make our sea view bedroom 'boutique' was a Perspex chair and matching bed throws. Having said that it was a large room and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and helpful although they did attempt to clean our rooms before 9am each day. Not being particularly early rises this wasn't appreciated. The breakfast was good and it was great to have the use of pool and sun loungers at the sister hotel next door which we took full advantage of. Overall it was OK but they should market themselves more realistically.

What a lovely find. Great location, good parking, very friendly and lovely staff, nice breakfast, comfy bed, pleasant surroundings, all in all they have got it right. We stayed for one night, but wished we had gone for two. We could have done with a bit more tea/coffee sachets, but I'm sure if we'd asked they would have obliged. Highly recommended.

Well what a very pleasant surprise. A last minute booking through booking.com. A big room at the rear of the hotel and very, very warm. Window open to sleep let in some of the neighbouring noises most of which quietened down by 10:00. An afternoon snack turned into a very agreeable evening meal, excellent "real" burger. Bar service was quick and efficient. Breakfast was similarly good although @ £10.95 a bit on the high side. Overall thank you Cottonwood.

Room Tip: perhaps avoid top floor in summer

What a disappointment, the setting is lovely, the public areas are well presented and then you see the bedroom. The dirty sheets heaped in the corridor outside the room (at 2.30 with no cleaners in sight) should heve warned us! Please take note of the number if you decide you must stay here - room number 27 . I booked a double and got a family room which normally wouldn't be a problem but in this case it left very little space to use. The bathroom, which really is no bigger than a cupboard, was awful. The shower base is corroded and has mould on the filthy grouting between the tiles (please see pictures). The drainage is inadequate so the water goes over the floor as well, the poor water pressure has been mentioned by so many people but it is really very poor, rinsing off soap was difficult as was trying to set the temperature. The extractor fan was very noisy, every time I closed the suspended sliding door I expected it to fall off. The bedroom is no better, the carpet is rucked up in many places and doesn't look very clean, the furniture is mismatched and makes the room look like a very old boarding house bedroom. The view from the window is of a dirty flat roof. The kettle doesn't fit under the tap so has to be filled up with mugs of water, there are no spare plug sockets to charge up phones etc.
Service in the bar was excellent, the receptionists were all very friendly and helpful the breakfast staff were not so good. If you spoke the right language you had great service, lots of friendly chatter and speedy service if not one took the order for drinks and then 5 minutes later the other one came over and asked the same question. We watched the waitress when she was asked for tea by three elderly people, first she went off for some more chatter with some prefered guests, then she went out of the room and wrote down some information for them. Eventually she decided to get the tea. The following day the same threesome had to ask twice for tea. Not a good stay!!!!! On reading past reviews I found a response to a similar complaint about room 27 (18th May 2013) in which the management were looking at forming an improvement plan for the room - the only difference in the room it would appear is the addition of mould and rust in the bathroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Travelled planning to stay 3 nights but cut to one lovely hotel with great public areas however I was given possibly the smallest single room I have ever had. Stuck at rear of hotel with tea tray on window ledge a small dining chair and single bed. Why someone had put a tv on a table when it could have gone on wall and freed up some space.Very stuffy could have done with a fan.
The staff are excellent especially in restaurant and bar the food was wonderful I had brunch, breakfast and evening meal all of which could not be faulted but insist on pouring you a cup of tea which was very weak and making you wait for another, why no teapot? ?
Was glad the weather was good so I spent time on terrace and in garden enjoying the sea view.
my score would have been a 5 but was let down as a lone traveller being given a basic room.
would suggest you ask for a seaview when booking

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

Me and my girlfriend are staying here for 2 nights. It is a great hotel in a good location. The room is large and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and the food in the restaurant is excellent and good value. We would definately recommend this hotel.
