“Vintage and pretty with great views of sea...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013 via mobile

My fiancé and I went here to look at the hotel as a possible wedding venue. Whilst we waited for the wedding coordinator, we were offered a drink. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. I asked if they had soya milk, and the bar lady did her upmost to find out for me, sadly they did not. Which I think they should have. The surroundings and decor of the hotel are beautiful. Lovely bright colours but all bought together with pretty accessories. The only problem was the reception area is quite dark and small.
When Sarah came to greet us, she was well presented, friendly and very helpful. We discussed what we would like for our wedding and she listened and took into consideration what we wanted, talked through everything and explained prices well and clearly. We were given a tour of the wedding rooms, to say they're beautiful is very apt. Big and well lit, and the reception room has its own bar and is bright and spacious. After our tour, we sat back down and were given a price for what we wanted for our day. It is very reasonable indeed.
Afterwards we decided to eat there, to try the food. The menu is small not to much to chose from, which I prefer as to much choice is daunting. The food was well priced, and was served quickly. It was lovely, well presented and good portion.
The view of Bournemouth beach is fantastic, and the garden out the front could do with some TLC but still decent.
We were so impressed, we have chosen to have our wedding here and am very much looking forward to it!!

Great hotel, lovely interior, perfect location for the beach and in easy reach if the town and station. Could do with better wifi, blackout blinds/curtains and stand up showers (not just shower head on the taps with no hook for overhead)

Staff exceptionally welcoming and fantastic food!

I am finding it hard to describe this hotel. This is not a boutique hotel we found the décor gaudy, the bedrooms are like stepping back into the 1970 well ours was, a very pokey and shabby twin bedded room which felt grubby. We are small people, god help those who are larger. The chambermaids do not understand the do not disturb signs, as I presume they cannot read English. The food was very average/poor with wrong orders delivered to us, unable to interchange between set menus and a la carte without a fight, breakfasts were buffet style, the hot food cold, and no one replaced food that had run out. That with an outrageous £80.00 per night supplements during the airshow, it just not worth the money. Yet I understand people go back year after year. From what I can gather guest staying in Bournemouth are prepared to settle for this type of accommodation as there is little else on offer. We would not stay here again. What I will say in its defence is that, the bar staff were excellent and very friendly.

Booked to stay with my partner, unfortunately we had to change the date due to a car crash, the booking lady was very kind and helpful about this and was happy to hold the booking until we could find a suitable date. The room was small but cute and had a lovely huge window looking out to the sea. I didn't use the bar or restaurant in the evening, but as i walked through the staff were friendly. Check in was abit slow, they didn't seem sure of what they were doing. There was meant to be a bottle of wine on arrival, unfortunately this wasn't the case, i did call reception for this, however, it never turned up. I then asked for it on departure in the morning and she brought it to me in a cooler with 2 wine glasses! I would return as it is a beautiful hotel, just needs some fine tuning.

Having read the reviews before booking, we requested a room on the 2nd floor. On arrival, they acknowledged our request but unfortunately did not have a room on the 2nd floor available - they did however say that we'd been upgraded to a sea view patio room. As it was a bank holiday weekend we appreciated this effort and we were only there for 1 night.
Friendly, efficient staff made the check in and stay really pleasant.
The location was excellent with wonderful sea views.
Loved the funky décor in the reception, bar and restaurant. The room however was disappointing, it was very small and cramped as was the bathroom and the toilet seat was broken. They thanked us for reporting this on checkout and said they'd have it fixed but I was surprised that the cleaner had not picked this up before we arrived.
I can understand why others recommended a room on the second floor as you could hear the people in the room above who came in at 2am in the morning and were up at 7am.
Breakfast was average - thought 9.30am was a little early to finish on a bank holiday.
Pleasant enough stay and would go again if we could be guaranteed of a bigger room on the 2nd floor.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a 2nd floor, sea facing room.

My wife and I called in for dinner last Saturday without having pre-booked and having had our earlier plans cancelled. What a revelation!! The food and drink (especially the Long Island Iced Tea!!) were excellent - definitely value for money - but what made the evening memorable was the service, in particular that provided by Gemma, our waitress for the evening.
She was pleasant, totally accommodating, completely engaging and thoroughly efficient. It was, indeed, a rare pleasure to be served by someone who so clearly enjoys what she does but is also exceptionally good at the same time.
Our thanks and appreciation to all the staff at the Cottonwood - but specific thanks to Gemma for ensuring we had a wonderful evening.
