“simply fabulous!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

Just came back after few days break with my better half at the Cottonwood hotel - and what a treat!! beautiful Hotel, located on the cliff top - romantic walk by the beach to the Bournemouth pier - ideal!! and the food!! it's more than you can imagine - nothing like in just any other Hotel - chef came out to us and served a main course to ask if it was to our satisfaction, food presented beautifully and tasting like heaven. We have mentioned that we were coming for our anniversary and we've found rose petals on our bed.. just superb!! big thank you to all the Staff! great service will definitely be coming back

Room Tip: pay extra for the amazing sea view! waking up to the beautiful sunrise makes your day!!

Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor of which I will be sure to feedback to the team and management. I'm delighted that the team acknowledged your anniversary with the small touch of rose petals on your bed and that our Head Chef also came out to see how you enjoyed your meal. We stongly believe and promote to the team that the guest experience is influenced by many different elements, one of which is the staff themselves. Going that extra mile is top of the agenda for us in 2013. I do hope if you return to Bournemouth in the near future you will choose to stay at the Cottonwood Boutique.

I loved the 'quirkiness' of this hotel. Hotel is advertised as a ‘Boutique’ hotel and it is certainly not corporate. There is a lovely mix of modern and traditional furniture and lighting. We had a lovely room at the front of hotel overlooking seafront. The room was a good size with a double and single bed( although there was only the two of us)I liked the way that as the hotel had only a few guests, that dinner was laid up and served in small room adjoining the bar rather than the large dining room. The only thing I would improve is the bathroom. The shower is one that is an extension of the bath taps but has to be hand held – not a favourite of mine! Great location – short walk (15-20 mins) along the beach will take you into the heart of Bournemouth.

Hotel ticked all the boxes, room food and staff fantastic and has a great position close to the beach and 10 mins walk away form the town centre. The price was excellent and very competitive in the area, looking forward to going back!

My wife and i stayed here for the New Year and like alan c i think the title Boutique is a bit of a mislead but never the less we had a good time the staff were very friendly and helpful and the New Year party food was cooked and presented very well our room was comfortable had a nice sea view room but was missing a couple of small things a wall mounted shower instead of a hand held also a rail on the bath to hold onto while you get up and exit the bath and other more important item running water instead of crawling water we reported to reception that our water was very slow we were informed that because it was old plumbing and we were trying to use at a high volume period this was the cause. not at all i tried it at 01:30 one day and 03:00 another so obviously it is a problem and needs addressing, overall still a nice place to visit once these things are sorted.

Room Tip: Sea view, 2nd floor so no one above you wooden floors, end of floor

Many thanks for your feedback regarding your stay over New Year and I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay. You mentioned problems with water pressure of which I am delighted to advise have been resolved; at the beginning of February pumps were fitted into all bathrooms. We are also hoping to change the shower heads over the coming months. Thank you once again for your comments and I do hope you will stay with us in the near future.

We stayed for a break between Xmas and New year so not always the best time to judge as hotel was extremely quiet. The term "boutique hotel" is well stretched here.Just putting up flowery wallpaper and some shabby chic furniture does not qualify. It does need more work. The gents toilet downstairs look and smells like a public loo and the rooms and general decor need attention. The (tiny) bathroom in our room had a mixture of new fittings and some dating back to the sixties. The sink was cracked and the toileteries basic. The staff however were all friendly and the Latvian waiter could not have been more attentive. The food was good too.

Room Tip: The sea view (although the sea is some way away) is a bonus

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay of which we use to continually improve on our facilities and standard of service. Boutique is one of those words which can be interpreted in many different ways; we use the word to not describe our unique decor but to also differentiate ourselves from larger corporate hotels. We also offer very favourable accommodation prices, 'boutique' is often associated with inflated prices. We do hope that you will stay with us again if you are visiting Bournemouth in the near future.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

To be in the area for business I booked a single at Cottonwood for just one night with a dinner, bed and breakfast package at a great price. I was not disappointed.

The hotel has had a recent and flamboyant makeover and is like falling into in a slightly mad very gay florist's dream world! The effect is skin-deep in that if I was a building surveyor or some architectural awards judge I would be feeling much more integral work was to be desired. But as a guest the look and feel of the place is all it needs to offer a rewarding experience.

The staff were all helpful and friendly - indeed I think they enjoy being a part of the environment and so step-up to add their part to make the offer more than just frivolous skin-deep appearance.

My little room was in truth a bit dull but it was good enough, with a good bed, all clean and functional with a few 'off the wall' elements to make it feel a part of the show. And too warm. I had to turn the rad' off and open the window. The whole place was boiling!

The evening meal I had was excellent, small portions but that is how it should be; I don't want to have a three course dinner that is so heaped-up I do not have an appetite for the desert. So Mr and Mrs Piggy you are not going to get a heap of food to trough at but you are going to get quality (if you know what that looks like).

I did have a few drinks too and yet was not shocked by the bar bill. Pub prices.

Breakfast was first rate. Good eggs, proper sausages, tomato juice, kippers if you want them. Nice big pot of tea.

So I had a grand old time but I am only rating at 'Very Good' and not 'Excellent'. Why? Because a great deal of what this hotel is about is the impression of style. Well the food is close to the real thing, the staff are genuine, the décor frankly, whilst lavish and thrilling, is in truth a bit false, a little bit of a pastiche of style (I hate to see fake paintings in a world full of real artists who struggle to sell work for a pittance) and the building whilst having fine grand bones needs real work - massively expensive work - to really put the old place into the condition it pretends to offer. But that will not stop you from having a lavish ball there. No no.

Room Tip: I would want a room with a sea view if staying for a few nights.

We booked for a single Saturday night as needed to be walking distance to the O2 Academy. Externally and on arrival, it all looks rather depressing in the daylight, although reception was helpful and cheerful and decor in the bar and reception area is cheerful but all rather cheap. Bar service was poor and although a lovely view to the sea, the rooms were disappointing. The in-room guest information states 'already regarded as the latest word in chic, contemporary decadence' probably 3 descriptive words that I would not apply to the Cottonwood. I understand what they were trying for - but have missed it by miles. Breakfast was well presented with a nice selection of fresh fruit. All in all it is a cheap wedding venue party hotel - I now understand why we had to pay upfront when we checked in (a first) and why the bar staff were a bit rude when we wanted to put the drinks tab on our bill... I guess they have loads of people leaving without paying?

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view - it will take your mind off the filthy carpets
