“A great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

My friend and I enjoyed two nights at the Cumberland. We attended the Fawlty Towers evening which was very funny. The hotel offers regular entertainment. Staff were very helpful, the hotel decor was great and relaxing. The food was wholesome and efficiently serviced. A swimming pool was available in the next door hotel which was also good. Parking was a bit difficult as we had to part on the road, but not too bad. Beds comfy and clean. We had a great view over the sea with a balcony. We thought the hotel was value for money. There were little things e.g. the main light in the bedroom did not work and the place does look a bit tired in places, but.. these sort of things happen anywhere and in no way detracted from our enjoyable stay. We would like to go back again.

Room Tip: Probably best to get a sea view room as it is very good and helps to give the holiday feel. Our room...

Had a great time at The Cumberland. The room was lovely bed really comfy. Great view from our balcony. Breakfast was lovely a great choice of full English cereal juices as much as you wanted. We ate in the hotel restaurant ventana both nights as we enjoyed it so much. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a sea view.

I booked this hotel for my husbands birthday after seeing a promotion on Travel Zoo.
I called the hotel & they matched the price, but I also paid for an upgrade to a sea view room.....Was it ever worth it!!!!!
Huge room nicely decorated with a private balcony overlooking the sea, on the 4th floor. The room was very quiet & the bed was very comfortable. A birthday card was also left for my husbands birthday....nice touch!
The whole décor of the hotel is art deco style, which has been really tastefully done. We sat outside by the pool late afternoon for a quiet drink & I felt as if I was in Spain, it was such a lovely sunny evening & a nice relaxed atmosphere.
The 3 course evening meal was really lovely with a few choices for each course.
The staff are absolutely fantastic, very smartly dressed & very attentive in all areas of the hotel.
For breakfast there is a wide choice of cooked, continental breakfast, toast coffee & tea.
We also used the sister hotel next door for a swim & a sauna. You have to ask to use the sauna as it is not on continuously & takes a good 30 mins to heat up, but it was lovely all the less. We felt the sister hotel was not up to the standard of the Cumberland, really looked old & tired.
Our only criticism, although it did not bother us was that the evening meal felt a bit rushed, but understand that they do have lots of sittings during the evening.
We would definitely return

Room Tip: Upgrade to a balcony room

Dear jahoWeymouth,

Thank you for your review. Great feedback regarding your stay with us. We are very pleased that your stay was enojayable and that you were able to use the hotel's facilities. During the summer, the poolside is a fantastic place to be, especially while sipping a delicious Cocktail from the Ventana Bar.

On arrival was a little disappointed no parking so had to park on the sea front not a problem really, check staff etc were very good got allocated a room on the 4th floor facing inwards. Room was clean but a little tired overall was on a trazelzoo deal so didn't really expect the best room in the hotel. Public areas were clean, where this hotel excels is in restaurant, food was superb both dinner and breakfast although the service in the evening was a little to quick could have gone through a three course meal in an hour!! The hotel could do with a make over the tatty chairs in the walkways don't help and one lift in the hotel is a bit of a joke. Enjoyed the stay but wouldn't rush back but the staff deserve 10 out of 10.

Dear ofrosty1,

Thank you for your review. Car parking on busy weekends can be challenge, but we are a resort of three hotels so have 3 car parks to choose from, also sea front parking is free over night, so glad you got parking.

Good compliments regarding the food, and your comments regarding service will be discussed. Also very pleased you found the staff good, we are very proud of our team and I know it will be rewarding for them to read your comments.

We do hope to welcome you back soon again.

Food is amazing, room very well presented. Plenty of towels. Overall a very very pleasant stay. Would recommend to couples and business stays

From the moment I arrived at the hotel I was met by very friendly and helpfuL staff. My single room was very comfortable. The food was excellent and the whole weekend was very good value. I felt that all the staff, the waitresses, receptionists, senior managers went out of their way to make sure everyone enjoyed their stay and I couldnt fault the hotel at all
