“family break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

stayed at the Collingwood for 4 nights with my sister and our respective partners. On arrival were checked in very quickly and parked up easily in large car park at rear.
Rooms very comfy bit we didn't have much of a view. Sisters room did overlook the sea however. Very good choice of food in restaurant at breakfast and dinner - service was very fast.
Hotel facilities very good ad we made good use of swimming pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. There was also a games room where we played table tennis. Evening entertainment every night, which was pleasant enough.
Bournemouth itself was good with a good selection of shops.
All in all a very pleasant stay and hope to go back at some point.

Room Tip: Ask for room at back as front of hotel can be a bit noisy at night.

After looking at 3 and 4 star hotels in the Bournemouth area we chose this hotel (Collingwood) because of the location of the bus stop outside. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made. On entering the hotel we were greeted with friendly faces at the reception which carried on throughout our stay and with all the staff at the Collingwood. We stayed on DBB for four days and the food was excellent in quality and quantity over the five courses. The entertainment in the evenings was a bonus as we did not expect this. On reading previous reviews that bedrooms on the front of the hotel were noisy, we had a room on the 3rd floor needless to say it was in the front and my wife and I had four tremendous good nights sleep. Though it is a main road we found it was not an inconvenience at all. We thoroughly recommend this hotel for short or long breaks.

We really enjoyed our stay at Collingwood hotel while on holiday , the staff were brilliant very welcoming and good quality service , great rooms as well very clean and tidy it had air-con and heating , bed was ok and bathroom is a good quality too. The food was fab too ,you get a 3 course meal with a lot to choose , you also have a vegetarian option if required from and for breakfast you get cereal and a full English breakfast and drink .This hotel also has a very secure car park. The games room has about 3 games to choose from. The entertainment was ok though one criticism that I have that the entertainment should cater for all ages ! This hotel is also in a great place to access the surrounding area such as the beach and the shops. We have been to this hotel more than once and hoping to visit again next year or so . From Robert , Carol and Tracy.

Me and my family stayed in room 123 for 3 nights.Ideal location for beach, shops, restaurants,BIC and pavilion. The room was quite big but it was very hot as there was no cooling system. The hotel have few faults first of all and most importantly the choice for breakfast was very limited and the hotel was under staff. There were delays for breakfast every day when we stayed.Secondly the hotel looked dated and needs a makeover.Third the staff on reception was not friendly at well.We never felt welcomed.
I do recommend the hotel for it s location and the fact that you can get good night sleep as the beds are really comfortable apart from that don t expect much from the hotel.

Many thanks for your comments

The hotel was refurbished in January 2012 in a traditional manner in keeping with the traditional building. We are sorry that this is not to your taste.

Our superior rooms do have air-conditioning and we are happy to provide fans when requested

We have a full hot & cold breakfast menu which includes cereals, fruit, croissants etc plus a choice of hot cooked breakfasts. If a guest has a particular request that is not on the menu we will do our best to accommodate them.

Finally, we pride ourselves on our friendly and efficient service in all departments, as you will see from previous comments and can only apologise that you were kept waiting at breakfast.

With it being the air show weekend I knew no where would be cheap but £280 for the weekend was good value. The staff were really pleasent with proper guest house characters running the place that made you feel welcome. The rooms were clean and tidy and the beds really comfy with high quality duvets and pillows which allowed for a great night sleep. With a small pool and sauna area and a nice little bar with a sun terrace it was exactly what you need after exploring and enjoying the seaside for the day. We only stayed bed and breakfast but the full English was excellent but the menu and smell of the evening meals looked excellent. Overall a really enjoyable stay and would have no hesitation in booking the collingwood again!!!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in July. We weren't bowled away by the hotel, it was very dated and our room looked over the carpark, but the location and weather was great so we didn't stay in that much. I think the price you pay is definitely because of the fantastic location and not for the hotel itself. Clean rooms, nice breakfast but nothing out of this world.

On the whole this a good clean well positioned hotel. The pool was spotless and well maintained. Our 1st night was in room 314 which we only had for one night and then had to move to room 112 ( both on the front of the hotel ). Room 314 is probably one of the best located overlooking the sea. Room 112 had a better walk in shower, the only problem was the noise from the road and was very hot as the windows only open 6 inches and no fan provided. Saying that I am sure if I got up in the early hours and went to reception there would have been one provided. The breakfast is very generous and quick service. Also the car park is very safe. On the whole a good stay and would return.

Room Tip: Room 314 for a family is a good choice.
