I stayed at this hotel from 17-21 June whilst on a training course and so had a preferential rate via the training company which included dinner and breakfast so it seemed reasonable value at £75 per night. I had read the mixed reviews about the rooms on this site so was a little concerned whether I could feel comfortable enough to do the required homework in my room. I need not have worried as my room on the 4th floor (484) was quite excellent, clean, well appointed, spacious and nicely decorated (see pics) with a very firm and comfortable bed and no creaky floors nearby. My only niggles were that the room was rather too warm (no aircon) and I could not find it initially, this hotel has been around for some time (lots of twisty corridors and rooms in odd places) and navigating it is a bit of a nightmare.
The hotel has a spa (sauna, steamroom, gym) and two pools, parts of which could be cleaner but they were never busy so I was happy to use them for 30mins on two of the days I was there,
The hotel lobby and bar were well lit and nice places to be but the lift right next to reception was very small (retro fitted is my guess) and only went to the third floor (explaining why I took 20mins to find my room on the Monday.)
Breakfast was pretty good in the main restaurant however the food quality seemed to suffer as the day went on, lunch from the bar menu was ok so long as you did not choose the plain sandwhiches, dinner was distinctly average - I am a good eater but twice out of four dinners I left as I did not enjoy the food. I asked if I could swap one of my meals to eat at the Amalfi italian downstairs (well reviewed on this site) but sadly it was not possible, it being a separate business. Given the other competition in the local area I would go for a b&b rate next time.
Other good things were free wifi although the service was fairly flaky and needing resetting on more than one occasion, the staff (some Spaniards methinks) were friendly and helpful.
I would consider this place again but there are are many others on Bournemouth, including the one I stayed at the night before the course started which offers even better vfm, See my next report!
