After moving from London I'd really missed Dim Sum from Soho. However I just found this and it is great home made dim sum.
For those who don't know dim sum is chinese brunch consisting of 'tapas' style dishes and is not normally served in the evening. It's served from 12 - 5pm at Ocean City. The menu is always separate and lists pictures of the dishes - you need to fill out with a pen the list provided on your table when ordering. Don't be put off by the chinese writing (they don't expect non-chinese people to order this food) - you just need to match the picture with the number on the list.
If you want to try this I would wholly recommend the absolute staples of dim sum that you will normally find on every dim sum menu because they are so popular. These are:
Har Kao, Sui Mai, Prawn Cheung Fun, Shanghai Dumpling, and the crab 'samosas'. You'll find that they go well with Soy Sauce, but much better with vinegar.
Remember the golden rules. Use chop sticks. Eat out of the bowl provided. Never order sweet and sour pork or chicken chow mein. Do not request a knife and fork - if they give you them, send them back. The saucer beneath the bowl is for left overs such as bones etc. Do not eat off it!!!
Like so called 'Indian food' in this country, chinese takeaways serve food that is not actually served in China or Hong Kong. They don't think British people would like it. However everyone I have introduced real chinese food loves it, and doesn't understand why it isn't sold everywhere. Try the real Chinese food and you will find it a million times better than the takeaway. I'm half Chinese by the way so I know my stuff!
