“Excellent stay ..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2014

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for four nights on a coach trip. We had a warm and friendly greeting on arrival, and keys and meal details were ready on arrival. Our room was on the ground floor, and was quite large with on suite shower room. The room had three windows, looking out on to the street, but had net curtains so quite private. The room had two comfy chairs, double bed, wardrobe and dressing table, with the usual hospitality tray, which was refilled daily. The room and bathroom were very clean, no dust anywhere. The meals were good and varied, with a good choice for breakfast. Our waiter, Derick, was a lovely young man, and we got on well with him. The service throughout the hotel was good, as was the bar manager, Michael, who remembered your drink even after such a short stay. All in all a good value for money hotel. The hotel is a short walk from the centre of Bournemouth, and a short walk to the beach. The road the hotel is on is quite busy, especially at weekends, but we found it to be quite quiet.

Room Tip: Room 104 on the ground floor is excellent. Very sunny in the mornings.

On arrival we noticed a severe lack of parking, the hotel has only space for 6 cars and this is one in front of the other so you have to leave your car keys at reception. There is parking on the road but during our 24 hour stay and walk around the area we did not see any spaces. It would seem that it is popular with coach parties so this is obviously not a problem for most residents. We arrived just in time to have the last space but we a little anxious that someone could at some point be moving our car to allow another resident out.
The receptionist was extremely efficient and informed us about breakfast times and other facilities in the hotel - breakfast is 8.30am -9.30am.
Our room was a twin as they did not have a double available on booking and was just the other side on the reception door - room 102. This proved to be noisy at night from other residents chatting on the way to or from their rooms and also noise from high spirited individuals outside the hotel going home after a night out!!!
The room its self was dated but clean. It was a little snug but ok. It had TV, coffee making facilities and a hair dryer. It was very very hot and being on the ground floor at the front we felt it was not wise to open the very large windows. The ensuite was a shower, basin and toilet. This was clean but dated and had some tiles missing around the toilet. The shower sounded like a pneumatic drill when turned on, it was so loud you could not hear the water running and it was luke warm. Also several time when in the room it sounded like some one had pulled the plug and water was running down the wall - obviously a few plumbing issues in this old hotel.
The hotel had a bar but not entertainment on a Saturday night and nowhere to sit outside unless you wanted to sit on the steps at the front of the hotel and watch the rather unsavoury locals walk by!
Well on to the breakfast................arrived at about 9am and gave our room number to a rather highly strung waiter, who after finding the list of table allocation found the table allocated to us has been used and not clear. It asked us to wait although there were plenty of other tables ready for use and eventually he showed us to another table. There was no explanation about the breakfast systems but a waitress did come over and ask us what we would like and we asked for to full breakfasts with scrambled egg instead on fried. This arrived very quickly but oh what a disappointment, the fried bread was smaller than a quarter of a slice, a small sausage, half a tomato , a "rasher" of bacon, a spoon full of beans and some cold scrambled egg. The coffee was weak. Our table was cleared before my husband had finished eating. There was no one supervising and it was obviously the waiting staff had not had any training was so ever. The dining room itself was downstairs so had not light.
To sum up our night stay, the room was clean and served the purpose but one night was enough and the breakfast was disgraceful for the price we paid of £82.00 for the night and would have expected and better standard for the price
The hotel location is about 10-15 from the sea front down a rather steep hill so be warned if you are not that energetic!

Room Tip: If you can avoid it don't book room 102 and take a fan.

We searched through booking.com for a hotel a short taxi ride to a wedding we were attending. We stayed for 2 nights. The staff were helpful, friendly and we had a very warm welcome. The room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was included, with a great menu choice and fast service. This hotel is a good all round base for exploring this area. Would definately return.

I stayed at Devon Towers in May 2014 and was really happy with the service and value for money. The interior may be dated, but the hotel is very clean and the rooms have everything you need. It's more than I would expect from a 2*, with toiletries, flat screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and free wifi is a great touch. Breakfast is average but definitely edible. The location is excellent, right by the sea. I would 100% recommend a stay if you are in Bournemouth for a weekend.

my mother in law and myself have just had an alfa coach holiday to the devon towers in bournemouth. the trips were good the only problem be it small is the hanging around as the link up at reading services when the coaches are coming in from all parts of the country.
it would be very nice if some benches could be put round here

Room Tip: ours was at the back there was a little noise but it sounds as if though at the front did get a bit...

We had a holiday at this hotel, in June 2013, with Alfa travel. The hotel was average food good with fair choice, plus vegetarian selection. For what we paid for the holiday it was very good value. We have had holidays with Alfa before, and found them to be. Vary good value for money. I can recommend this holiday company. The hotels are not 4star, but good value.

We have just returned from a seven day holiday to this hotel with Alfa. The staff were all excellent and very friendly. Our room was large and very comfortable and spotless clean.
The breakfasts were very good with a large choice. Evening meals were also very good and once again a large choice we were also given a free glass of wine with our meal. The bar man Michael was a lovely man who always remembered your name. The restaurant staff were all friendly and efficient. We must also mention the coach driver Gareth who was most informative on all the excursions and made them interesting. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
