“over-hyped”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

we visited after reading rave reviews and taste of the west award winner so here goes= nicely decorated and peaceful calm atmosphere but alittle cramped up the top end. For an upmarket tearooms (and the prices reflected this) the cakes and scones were a visual letdown and therefore decided to opt for a couple of toasted sandwiches, a coffee and a speciality tea, the drinks were excellent although the young lady forgot my slice of lemon for the tea (we did request it from another waitress but to no avail !). the toasted sandwiches arrived although only 1 was toasted and minus any cutlery. In the end it was an average lunch there certainly no "wow" factor, but that was only compounded by the extremely rude "older lady" on the front desk who took our money without a word of thanks with her fagin like fingerless gloves and when i attempted to engage her in conversation about the premises formerly being a jewellers shop i was greeted by a one word answer before she started to mumble and grumble about someone leaving the front door open !! We will not rush back.

“Vintage tea, vintage elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Whist on holiday last week my wife and I stumbled upon this gem of a tea room in Fore st.,Totnes.The very pleasant and friendly lady in the shop at the front of the tea room gave a good impression of what was to come.Although very busy we were found a table and were immediately struck by the elegance, cleanliness and relaxed atmosphere of the room.Lloyd loom chairs, china tea and coffee services and well mannered, smart and efficient waiting staff.
In this world of American and Italian coffee houses it was such a treat to turn back the clock in a traditionally English tea room.We were so impressed that we went out of our way the next day to make a second visit.
The only disappointing aspect of this excellent establishment is that it is 300 miles from our home!

“A wonderful vintage tea room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

We were greeted with a warm welcome and many apologies for having to wait whilst they set the table (all of two minutes and it was a busy lunch time).
The tea room is bright and airy, with a very tranquil atmostphere, I especially love the china tea service.
There is a huge selection of teas on offer, including the standard breakfast tea, which we had, plus toasted cheese and ham sandwiches.
A wonderful way to relax and enjoy the atmostphere, we will definitetly be going back when we are next in town.
