“what a find !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

This little cafe did surpise us,we went for a sunday lunch with friends ,fire going, sunday papers, wonderful food and the puddings well ,am sure if you have been you will know ! the staff were very helpful and the cafe seemed to be busy with regulars as lots of friendly banter with the staff. This was definitly not a carvery but restaurant food in a relaxed surrounding.Having been lucky enough to eat in some wonderful restaurant i would highly recommend this cafe, having read the little boys review i did see on the menus that all food was fresh and cooked to order so please be patient maybe mcdonalds might suit him better next time

“Disappointing Sunday lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

6 of us booked for Sunday lunch, but it proved pretty average. £9.50 for roast dinner, restaurant price for cafe food. Meat and roast potatoes presented on plate, but vegetables served in dishes. Meagre portions for 6 diners. No sage and onion stuffing or apple sauce with the roast pork, and no mustard or horseradish with the roast beef. No gravy boat. No enquiry from staff as to weather "everything OK?" Told the staff after paying our bill ( still no enquiry as to whether we were satisfied) that we were disappointed.
Manager said we should have asked for extra veg and accompaniments! We told him it is not for the customer to ask for these things, they should be offered as a matter of course.
Suspect small helpings lead to clients ordering a dessert to fill up! Have to say the desserts were very tasty though! but @ £4.50 each that brings the total to £14 plus drinks etc.
There are much better value Sunday roasts around Torbay in much more comfortable sumptuous surroundings. Won't be back and suggest they up their game in future.

Not much you can do wrong if you get the fresh scones right. Ours was good value simple and tasty. What more can you ask?

“Fresh food but it's bad tasting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

I'm nine years old and I love the castle but i don't exactly love the cafe. I came here with my family and freinds and the atmosphere wasn't all that good. The drinks came quickly but the food took a long time and they didn't even have a very big choice. As more people came in got even worse because the food took even longer but when the food came it was horrible. It was as fresh as possible but it didn't stop it being yuck!

“Excellent cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Further to the previous review, I believe that I was in the cafe on the day in question.
I am a regular here and I love it.
On this particular day, the family in question did nothing to stop the baby making regular loud shouting and screaming noises - so much so, that I nearly walked out. There were quite a few people in the cafe at the time and most of them were unimpressed at the overall behaviour of this family.
What started as a lovely meal out with friends became an unpleasant experience. Luckily, this sort of thing is very unusual and I will be back many more times.
