“Fantastic even in November”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

We visited Gitcombe with our two children aged 1 and 3, and - despite it being November and so cold out - we all loved it. As mentioned elsewhere the facilities are brilliant - we could pretty much drop the kids off in the soft play area and read a book - and the 3 year old loved the indoor pool. We also did a number of gentle day trips, and although the lanes to get there are quite rural it is close to lots of places which are worth visiting.

Peter and Joanne had recently taken over Gitcombe when we got there, and they were really helpful. It was obvious how much they love the place, and that enthusiasm really does rub off - we'll go again.

We have recently returned from our stay at Gitcombe in early November along with our 14 month old daughter. What a find. The accommodation was superb and the facilities brilliant - our daughter loved the heated indoor pool and play area. You will also find that Gitcombe is brilliantly located for a variety of day trips that the surrounding area has to offer on its doorstep (Dartmouth, Blackpool Sands, Dittisham, Riverford etc...)
The real plus for us was meeting the new owners, Peter and Joanne, who are a delight. They have embraced this new venture with a combination of enthusiasm and real expertise. We've already booked our return.

Gitcombe is a beautiful valley with wonderful walks and grounds, hung out in the pool and hot tub when it was raining and explored the countryside when it was fine.
The owners get the balance right of being available and friendly but not too in your face. They threw a wonderful Halloween party for us all and we felt very welcome. The cottages are well equipt and comfortable with nice decor. Our two boys aged 2and 5 really enjoyed their stay and so did we.

Gitcombe is a very relaxing place to stay - so much so we've been there twice in a year. Having the indoor swimming pool and outdoor hot tub takes the pressure off the weather and we fall quickly into a nice routine of activities in the morning, lunch out and swimming in the afternoon.
When we visited in February we felt that possibly the decor was getting a bit tired. We were really pleased to see that it has been bought and Peter and Joanne seem enthusiastic and dynamic. I think they'll give the whole place just the lift it needs.
We will definitely return.

We've just returned from a week's holiday at the Gitcombe cottages over half term and had a fantastic week. We stayed in the Sheepstor cottage which was perfect for our family (2 children aged 18 months and 4 years) and could have fitted more as there were 2 full size singles and 2 children's bunk beds in addition to a large double and travel cot on site. It is a perfect setting for a young family holiday with plenty to do locally but if you hit a spell of bad weather, it remains fun for the kids as there is a great indoor swimming pool, lovely warm outdoor hot tub looking over a beautiful view and indoor play area for under 5's.

We highly recommend it as a holiday particularly for young families. We hope to be back soon.

This was our second trip to Gitcombe in 3 months and we had a fabulous time. We stayed at the Coach House with our children (aged 6 and 7). Peter and Joanne who have recently taken over are warm and wonderful hosts and made a lot of effort to make us feel welcome. We particularly appreciated the drinks reception that they hosted and the pumpkin carving competition was great fun. The Coach House is lovely and offers wonderful living space for a family - the main living room/kitchen is 30' long with an Aga at one end and an open fire at the other - perfect for an autumn/winter break. The fixtures and fittings are of very high quality. The pool is lovely, the hot tub really decadent and we used the tennis court most days. Gitcombe is situated in a very scenic valley, equidistant from Dartmouth and Totnes, which are both charming towns. The local beaches are delightful and there is plenty to do and great eating out options . We'd recommend it to anyone (particularly good for families) and will return. Thanks!

Room Tip: The Coach House is a particularly good winter option because of the Aga and fire. It also has more i...

We stayed in Maristow with our 5 year old and 2 year old. Lovely cottage! Indoor swimming pool was a HUGE hit - we used it twice a day. Gitcombe is very relaxing and a great place to go with kids as it is so safe and secure. The grounds are great and everything is maintained to a high standard. Peter and Joanne are fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome and Robert is still talking about the Porsche!!! Would recommend Gitcombe to anyone as it offers something for all ages. We will be back......................
