“good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Stayed here on a 5 day break with david urquart.Had a really great time with them. The hotel was good for this type of holiday and the food was excellant.Staff very friendly and the hotel was very clean.Good postion near the seafront and only a short walk into the town.I would just like to give our coach driver Spencer a mention has he was one of the best we have travelled with.On these type of trips the coach driver is most important to make a good holiday, and he did just that.Thank you Rainbow and Spencer.

We stayed there on an organised coach trip, the hotel is positioned up a man road from the beach and a reaonable walk from the town centre.
We had a family room on the ground floor, although we did have to decend 3 flights of stairs to get to it as well as countless corridors, disabled persons beware, although the do have stairlifts attached to the stairwells.
The food was a bit repitive having carvery every day we were there.
Evening entertainment was average, but the night club is very nice, as is the indoor swimming pool.
Restaurant staff were very helpfull/friendly but the reception staff varied depending on who you got. We had trouble with the toilet it would not flush on every occassion
and it take a couple of days to get it sorted.
Overall the hotel is a typical british seaside hotel and for the prices charged is not bad value for money.

Room Tip: Close to the lift, corridors seem to go on for ever.

On arriving we found plenty of free parking,as mentioned by others this is one of many hotels that cater for coach parties. The wife and me got to reception and was greeted by friendly, helpfull staff, nothing was too much trouble and found them all to be very helpfull throughout our two night stay.We stayed 1st -3rd march, room 312.
We had a room only booking for a bargain total price of £70.Our room was clean, spacious and very warm, everything functioned as it was supposed to.
The location of the hotel is good as it's five minutes to the beach, plus there are many pubs up and down the street, chippys etc.Be warned, the pub across the road is very expensive and nearly always empty.£3.70 for a pint of guinness which was the most expensive in all of the places we visited, cheapest we found was top of high street £2.90,even town centre bars only charged around £3.The drinks in the hotel are very fair and the nightly entertainment was good, bar closed at midnight.
We found our hotel to be a very pleasant stay with nothing at all to complain about, would we stay again?.........Yes we would.
If anyone from reception is reading this i would just like to say to all the staff at the "Rainbow",thanks for making our weekend break a pleasant one.

we stayed here as a base whilst visiting family, we asked for AND got a good deal on price.the staff were very attentive, the room was not very clean, we pickedup rubbish left by others, the furniture had coffee stains running down the sides.Food was as one might expect in a hotel catering for tha mass market of coach trippers ie plenty of it but of an iffy taste.we would use this hotel again but only for a reduced price after not finding elsewhere.

Our stay Rainbow International, Soon as you get through the door you are greeted with a very warm welcome with a smile. The staff in the reception we found to be friendly and nothing was to much trouble. There knowledge of the local area was good and found to be very informative. The room we stayed in(225) Had a bath/shower.double bed of good comfort level. good storage and was very spacious.Warm and good day light. The resturant was clean/spacious and good attentive staff. The carvery served good home style food/ the service of the carvery team was outstanding, They would do their upmost to accomadate your request. The pool is ok for a quick dip/ clean and of a good size. The evening entertainment was very good/ bingo, acts ect.Overall the service through the hotel was outstanding, Rodger the manager must be very proud of his team. The only drawback the hotel needs to be updated decoration wise, But well worth a visit.

Room Tip: If you want to treat someome special book the stratford room, the best in the hotel, but it doe'...

Stayed Monday to Friday last week, dinner bed & breakfast. The food was good and plentiful. Hotel is a bit tired looking and could do with some modernisation, especially the windows which were running with condensation making the walls damp. There were several coach tours in the hotel so a bit of queueing at mealtimes. The room was very small and the furniture consisted of a chest od drawers (2 drawers) and a single wardrobe which was a bit inadequate for a couple as there were no coat hooks or any other drawers in the dressing table. Also no towel rail or hooks in the bathroom so no-where to hang anything. The room was very cold and although the hotel provided extra blankets this did not help. There was no hot water to shower in the morning although there was some in the evening. Overall a bit disappointing.

Very good welcome from reception staff. Unfortunately the rooms we were allocated involved lots of stairs with no lift access. On advising the very pleasant lady on reception, we were immediately given three much more suitable rooms, no problem at all. The weather during the weekend of our stay was a very cold one but the bedrooms, dining room and public areas were lovely and warm.

The only exception was the large cabaret room. It was absolutely freezing and we had to keep our coats on which was a shame as it is a lovely impressive room.

Congratulations must go to the chefs- brilliant. The food is buffet style and all the items at breakfast were of good quality. The only small criticism is having to help ourselves to tea and coffee. It would be nice to be served this at our table. Dinner was excellent. The vegetarian options were superb. I can truthfully say that my nut-roast was presented beautifully and was the best I have ever tasted. My meat- eating companions assured me that the meat on offer was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. If I lived in Torquay I would eat in the restaurant regularly- it would be hard to beat for flavour!! Will definitley return again- no hesitation.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with lift access
