“Cheap but Very Cheerful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

The first thing I'd like to say is Thank you all at the Rainbow for a real nice weekend.
Booking in ... This was fast on time and efficent the nice smiles do make such a difference.
The room ... 427 Just above tha ballroom. However no problem music finish early on the nights. It was a little tired but spotlessly clean. Love the fluffy orance towels. The TV worked well, the bed was comfy, most importantly the room was lovely and warm. (it was a really cold weekend)
The hotel is situated in an excellent location. A pub across the road (bit pricey) £8 10 for a lager and a glass of wine. Just up the hill a very good chippy. Down the hill five minute walk your on the sea front..
Entertainment ..... We were there on a dance weekend so very good. We did venture into the Rainbow room for drinks. The cabaret looked good, the only downside the room was very cold.

The food ........ The dining room was clean pleasant and comfortable. Top Notch dinner a really good choice and well cooked food. The chocolate cake was yummy. Breakfasts were very good with crispy bacon nice sasauges and a wide range of cerals. The only comment I would make is sort out the toasters very slow. This did give folk a chance to chat to other guests. Heard all favourable things about the hotel. A special thank you to the little Scottish lad. Very helpful and I bet he had the biggest smile in Torquay. My wife wanted to "take him home" :)

All in all a very pleasant experience at the Rainbow. Would we go again yes most certainly.
Once again Thank you all

Room Tip: Try the chocolate cake

We stayed at the Rainbow 4/2/2013 for four nights, our first time in the hotel,we were in room 219 which was below reception and our room was on the same floor as the small swimming pool, it was adequate enough for a 7 am swim before breakfast, and it closes at 7pm,yes it was a little bit cold in the changing room but how long do you need to spend there, the water was warm.
The staff are very friendly in the hotel in every department and nothing was too much trouble.
Our room had 3 beds one double and a single on each side, the tv was good also tea and coffee, clean towels when needed, not a view to boast about but then who needs it.
The shower worked perfectly and watch out for the very hot water.
The entertainment was very good we had a laugh, you get to meet a mixture of very nice and friendly people in the time you are there.
The Buffet Breakfast was great, you had a wide choice from cereals, porridge, grapefruit etc, then a selection of egg, bacon, fried pots, sausage, beans, fried bread, black pudding, mushrooms and tomato, and toast/jam.
The evening meal was also a buffet with a selection of meats, veg /roast (huge ones) or maybe a pie etc, then sweet/ cheese and biscuits,,
The dining room did not smell too me as one traveller mentioned in a review (but he did state that he used to work in a home) it was very light and airy and always plenty of room.
The bedrooms had clean sheets on the one we were in also the pillows were comfortable,my husband actually slept well there and he doesn't normally.
As someone mentioned the toilets are a long way from reception, but we were lucky because we only had a short walk downstairs.
I took my lap top but the only drawback is the wifi is opposite the reception and it could get a little bit noisy and cold there, it`s a shame there is none in the rooms.
We would most definitely go back to this hotel again, people should make their own judgement on the place after staying there because some are fussy and others are not, its just gives you an outlook on the place.
We found some things needed doing but nothing to write home about as i think that they will get done eventually.
Thanks to everyone for a lovely break at the Rainbow International.

Room Tip: Check it out before you unpack

Just returned from weekend in Rainbow International Hotel & had a very enjoyable time. The hotel is trying hard to be as good as they advertise but the rooms are rather sad, poorly decorated & have very outdated plumbing systems. On the plus side food & staff were excellent. Both breakfast & dinner were self service.... everything hot, tasty & nicely presented. The staff were friendly & helpfull & the public rooms were warm & welcoming. Would I return ? Yes ! but would view room before lugging cases about the building.

Room Tip: Make sure room is redecorated, refurbished & the plumbing works

We only stayed one night so I'm unable to comment on the food and facilities however we only paid £30 for a double room....location of hotel is excellent, just a four minute walk from the sea front. The hotel is very dated but I didn't mind as it felt very british. The rooms are basic but warm, clean and with plenty of hot water. There is a small television, a wardrobe, a hairdryer and of course a kettle so you can have a cuppa in the morning or when you get back from the pub. My only concern was the smell of the duvet but everything else was clean and tidy.

I've just returned from a 3 night 60's cabaret break at this hotel. I went with my husband, mother and aunt and we had a lovely time. The hotel has obviously seen better days but our rooms were warm and comfortable and everything worked!
We stayed at this hotel last year and were disappointed to find that the sauna and jacuzzi had gone and that the gym has been turned into an ironing room! I guess the age of most of the guests made this seem a good idea? Swimming pool was warm and generally quiet though the changing room was cold and poorly furnished.

Food was excellent for a few nights but maybe could become a little boring after a while as it was mostly good old fashioned English food (although there was veggie lasagne on Fri. and veggie stir fry on Sunday.)

Stayed at the rainbow from 28/01/13 -01/02/13, i have to say what a nice friendly hotel. The rooms and hotel were spotless but have to admit the rooms could do with a refurb but please do not let this put you off. The food was excellent and always hot and plentiful.....breakfast consisted of all types of cereal and full cooked breakfast, it was serve yourself including tea, coffee and fruit juice......evening meal was a carvery each night offering a choice of 2 meats, you also had a vegetarian choice and another choice of meal eg curry, pie etc.. The hotel put on entertainment each night and the bar prices were fair for a hotel...pint of lager cost us £3.30. Every member of staff was helpful and friendly and always spoke to you, we went on a coach based holiday to this hotel with a good crowd of people, mind you i think we were the youngest at the age of hmmmm late 40s almost 50, but believe me we had a ball with the older guests........try this place, you wont regret it, we only paid £109 each which included the coach and 2 trips.
