“Very Tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

Just stayed at this hotel, Friday to Monday, It was one of the best value holidays we have had. Done through National Holidays. The reception area was very clean and modern but the bedroom very very tired!!! In the bathroom NO toilet roll holder! Toilet roll on the rubbish bin?? No shelf for toiletries below the mirror! Screw holes still in both places, would have taken a couple of pounds and 10 minutes to put right!! Electric socket for razor and also the light not working! Went to have a shower at 6pm NO hot water, this really was not good, especially in the early evening. But on a lighter note the food was good and the choices for the main meal was good. I would recommend this hotel for a base and a short break but not for a long stay.

Room Tip: Give the hotel a ring before you book if you are particular about baths and showers, we had a bath a...

Sorry you experienced some minor issues during your recent stay with us, but I was pleased to read that you enjoyed the dining aspect. We have experienced some intermittent issues with the boiler recently but I am confident this is now rectified. I hope you will consider visiting again

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. Sorry you didnt enjoy some of the entertainment. Bingo is very popular with the majority of our guests as I am sure you witnessed. Hopefully you will visit us again (and maybe win the full house!)

My partner and i stayed for 3 nights, unfortunately managers were few and far between, entertainment should have been held in a different room, unable to relax in bar area due to it. Room appeared partly refurbished, TV only recieved 5 channels, one of which was news, the staff were very good and couldnt be faulted. Food portions were tiny, we had to go out to eat on top of eating at dinner, breakfast was ok, again portion sizes could have been larger, i have worked in hotel management for several years and when bay hotels have spent some money on the building it should be better.

Sorry you were not completely satisfied with your recent visit. There is always a duty manager available if needed. We offer a normal portion size that would be acceptable to the majority of our guests but we are happy to accomodate the bigger appitite. If you should stay with us again, please let us know if there is anything we can do to enhance your visit

My partner and I have recently enjoyed a 5 day break with National Holidays at the Trecarn. This hotel is obviously very old but the main areas have been refurbished also we were given to understand that some bedrooms had also been refurbished as well.We were unfortunate to have been given Room 222 which was very dowdy and the carpet was stained and very dirty. The bathroom was so tiny with only a small shower cubicle which was full of mould . My husband is a big fellow and had great difficulty in moving around when he was using the bathroom.
However......... The room was always warm, the beds were very clean and comfy and clean towels were supplied when needed.
The food was very good with a varied menu - 3 choice 3 course with a vegetarian option each evening. The waiting staff worked very hard and the service was first class

The entertainment was excellent each evening starting with the usual bingo which was a popular event . Staff were very helpful in finding seats for everyone to enjoy the entertainment.

The drinks vouchers were a bonus on this trip. 4 free drinks per person each evening and my husband enjoyed the Worthington beer which he said was very good quality.

The trips to Plymouth, Dartmouth and Brixham were well organised and very enjoyable.

Would I go to this hotel again?? Most certainly but I would definitely refuse to stay in Room 222 until it has benn refurbished!!!!

Thank you for your recent review. As you rightly pointed out, a number of rooms have been refurbished and I am hoping to carry this on with more rooms this year. It is a long process in such a big hotel and we do try to offer great value as you pointed out. I hope you will consider visiting us again

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in January on a National coach break, the staff and the hotel were great. The hotel is obviously quite old but has recently had a partial make over on the ground floor. The reception, dining and entertainment area's have new carpets and furniture which is fresh and modern. The double bedroom (171) was nicely decorated in neutral colours and new furniture, although the en suite was a little small, it was perfectly adequate . The meals were very nice and the service was first class. The evening entertainment was really very good and the four free drinks per person per day was outstanding value for money. All the staff were friendly and very professional, a credit to the hotel and a great advertisement for the Bay name and British hospitality . I would certainly stay there again and recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a stay in Torquay.

I'm here on a National coach holiday and so far I am impressed with the hotel for the price I paid. It's clean and comfortable and the food choices are varied. There is a very large dining room with fast and efficient service. We were never kept waiting long. All in all excellent value on the trip but not sure what the price would be for an independent traveller.
