5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

A lovely welcome from Carol and Andy complete with a tray of fresh tea and chocolate brownies just set the scene of a wonderful weekend stay at Elmdene Hotel.

The hotel is fresh, spotlessly clean and airy and has a lovely feel of quality. Our room was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The bathroom had an excellent shower, thick white towels and lots of extra little touches that add to the pleasure of being away from home and being looked after.

The beautifully presented and tasty breakfast was served in a lovely bright airy comfortable dining room. Every need seemed to be catered for.

I cannot praise this small hotel enough. Excellent value for money; no wonder it has such good ratings. I hope Carol and Andy get some nice breaks themselves because they certainly do all they can for their guests.

A pleasure to stay and we look forward to a return visit.

Rod & Annie

Decided to stay at the Elmdene after reading its excellent reviews on Tripadvisor. Have to say we were not disappointed. Hosts Carol and Andy were most welcoming, providing all the nice little personal touches to make our 3 day stay perfect.

The B & B is tastefully furnished and is spotlessly clean with thick towels and fluffy bathrobes etc provided. The fresh milk and cold water were most welcome and the fridge in the room a definite bonus. Breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice.

This is one place to really consider if visiting the area as it fully lives up to its reviews.

Greeted by our hosts on arrival with tea and brownies there is only one thing to say about this B&B ---- that is EXCELLENT.
After travelling the world in my job ,I have to say this is the best B&B by far that we have stayed.
Carol & Andy will do what ever it takes to make your stay perfect.

Room Tip: Parking is a bit tight for the larger car.

Having chosen this B&B on the basis of its trip advisor rating, we were not disappointed at all. Usually we stay in hotels but decided to try the Elmdene instead for our weekend away. It is lovely, spotlessly clean, fab comfy beds with luxurious furnishings. Great hosts, very helpful but not at all intrusive. Great choice of DVDs, books, magazines.

Lovely touches like fudge, fresh milk, hot chocolate and fluffy robes in the rooms, Really good breakfast with locally sourced ingredients and made to order. Nothing was too much trouble for Andy and Carol and we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Room 2 is a really good size and also has a separate lounge area with TV and DVD player.

This was my 5th visit to the Elmdene and was as excellent as before- if not better!, The room (3) is spacious, spotless, with a large bathroom and again has all the extras you could wish for- you just cant go wrong. There is always a good and friendly atmosphere in the Hotel and the breakfast room, quality and choice of food is superb- you cant fault it. The bar is very comfortable and a great place to relax. Andy and Carol are great people who give premier league quality and service! What is really impressive is they always look to improve on what is already a great product- they are the reason the Elmdene is in a league of its own. Already booked again.

My husband and I wanted to go away for a couple of days to celebrate my 50th birthday. I love Devon, the sea and the Moors so Torquay seemed a good base. Having had some disastrous previous experiences travelling both in the UK and abroad I had become obsessed with reading reviews and the experiences of other travellers. After 2 and a half hours of searching Trip Advisor we came across The Elemdene and studied the reviews we read, subsequently we booked.

The Elmdene is owned by Andy and Carol, a totally straightforward and helpful couple. On arrival we were greeted by Andy, warm and friendly, instantly likeable. He made tea for us and offered suggestions of where we could dine and listen to live music (both of our requests.)

The room, decor, space, cleanliness and serenity were probably unsurpassed in my guest house/hotel experience. I don't say this lightly, and please bear in mind I have stayed at the Hilton Hotel in Times Square, New York - so hopefully you get the picture?

The breakfast (in a spotless and stylish dining room) offered a good selection which was plentiful, fresh, hot and served with a smile. Both my husband and I were genuinely sorry when our short break in Torquay ended. If I had to have one complaint and of course bearing in mind I'm English, so I must...it would be the pillows were too firm.

Andy and Carol told us their guest house was full for following weekend and many people were return visitors - that was hardly a surprise! We really cannot recommend The Elmdene highly enough. If you are planning a trip to Devon, looking for a good base (with parking), helpful, non-intrusive owners and a very keenly priced deal then you really should visit.

Room Tip: I'm not telling you which room we stayed in, just in case it should be booked when we want to re...
