“a great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2011 via mobile

Stayed for 3 nights in a twin room which was clean and nicely decorated. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and the cooked breakfasts were amazing! Would definitely stay there again and hopefully will be booking to stay again later in the year ( if they have room )

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

We stayed for four nights in a family room (two adults and one child) during August 2011 and were very happy with the overall experience.

Our family room was quite spacious; apart from a double bed and a single bed, we also had use of a double wardrobe, a dressing table, three bedside tables, two chairs and a suitcase stand. The en-suite bathroom was also well stocked with the usual toiletries. Our bath also had a shower attached which worked quite well.

We were impressed with the cleanliness of our room and bathroom. Everything was very clean and also very quiet. The decor could use some modernisation and a power shower would have been preferable, but these were not major issues for us.

Breakfast was good and the owners were accommodating with our requirements, which was appreciated as we were there with our five-year-old daughter. In addition to cereal, fruit juice, fruit and toast, we had a choice of a Devonshire breakfast (one locally produced sausage, one rasher of bacon, mushrooms, grilled tomato half, beans and an egg cooked to your liking), vegetarian breakfast (as Devonshire but with a vegetarian sausage and hash brown instead of meat sausage and bacon), or kippers.

The Devonshire was nice and filling, as was the vegetarian option. We did not have kippers so cannot comment on that.

There is a bar, lounge and outside terrace seating area. The lounge is well stocked with books in case you find yourself short of bedtime reading material. There is also free Wi-Fi available which I used daily. The hotel is also very well stocked with leaflets for local as well as more further afield attractions, as well as maps.

There is room for about 7-8 cars in the long driveway, but if you find yourself without a space, there is plenty of free on-street parking available.

The Bahamas is conveniently located to the seafront and is within walking distance (about ten minutes walk). The main town centre is a further ten minute walk from the seafront. Bear in mind that this may be a bit long if you have children out of a pushchair and walking. It is also conveniently located to shops and restaurants.

Overall then, we enjoyed a very pleasant stay at the Bahamas and would recommend it. If we ever find ourselves back in Torquay, we would be very happy to stay there again. By the way, be sure to mention your sight-seeing destinations with the owners, as they may have discount vouchers available.

We stayed for just 2 nights and had a ground floor room looking out of the driveway. The room looked as if it had been recently refurbished and was very comfortable. For once, the bathroom offered a full size bath. There was a tea & coffee tray provided with a couple of biscuits and we particularly appreciated the bottles of water - a nice touch.

Breakfast was also just a little bit better than the usual B&B set-up with prunes and grapefruit (tinned) provided along with the usual juice and cereals. The cooked breakfast option also included kippers.

There was a pleasant lounge for residents and also a bar open in the evening which again was just a bit more than the typical B&B.

The owners were friendly and helpful and clearly tuned in to the needs of their guests.

We ended up taking the car whenever we went out but whilst the sea front and town are within walking distance, it's probably a good 20 minutes to the main restaurants. You might be happy to walk there but want to get a taxi back!

Definitely recommended

stayed at bahamas for 3 nights and was very impressed with the clean rooms, along with great service. The breakfast was cooked to order and came hot and well cooked. The room was well kept and the bathroom modern and well appointed. The value for money for such a well presented and located hotel can not be stressed enough and would readily go again to same hotel next time in torquay.

Couldnt fault a thing - hotel location was great - room was immaculate, breakfast was excellent and plentiful - nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. Would definitely return and would recommend to anyone without hesitation.

Everything you need in room, beds very comfortable and very good shower! The whole place was very clean. Staff extremely welcoming and very helpful with regards to local area, John suggested food places and nice local places we could visit and gave us a map which was very useful to us! Breakfast was really nice! Plenty of parking space also! Only down the road from the seafront probably a 10 minute walk, we are lazy and drove though! If we come back to Torquay we both said we'd come back to the Bahamas and I would reccommend it!
