“THE place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

We found the accommodation to be of a very high standard. Small touches such as sweets in your room, free cakes and cookies during the day and complimentary bottled water in your room all added to the experience. Breakfast is excellent with a wide range of options made with locally sourced produce. Staff were attentive and could not do enough for guests. We will definitely be returning!

We love the Somerville and have a weekend stay here every winter. The rooms are fabulous, the hosts are helpful and friendly, the food is divine and the location is perfect. The extra touches make this much more than a B&B. It's more like a 5* hotel. Can't wait to visit again.

Staying twice on personal business within a week , we were very glad to have found the Somerville - accommodation lavish without being OTT , fantastic ( no need for lunch ) breakfast and great reception from hosts who, rightly, take huge pride in what they do .

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO STAY ANYWHERE ELSE ?

We booked to stay at the Somerville based on the glowing Tripadvisor recommendations - we were certainly not disappointed.

The owners make you feel most welcome from the moment you arrive with everything you need to know explained in detail. This, however, is only the precursor for the delight that awaits when you are shown to your room. We stayed in a “standard” room, which was anything but. The opulent traditional décor coupled with contemporary facilities far exceeds the traditional British sea side resort bed and breakfast monica. There are many thoughtful touches that make you realise that the owners have given great thought to how to make your stay memorable - from luxury toiletries in the bathroom to a fridge in the wardrobe to a dish of jelly babies on the refreshments tray, it all adds to the Somerville experience.

We were particularly impressed with the breakfast selection which includes everything you would expect and some you wouldn’t like smoothie shots, breakfast trifles and from the hot selection, Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale.

Put simply, if you appreciate the good things in life and can afford a modest extra outlay there is little point staying anywhere else when visiting Torquay.

Amazing hotel, brilliant owners and fantastic setting. The weather couldn't even dampen our spirits. We went on the weekend of the 25th January and I have to say we had such a great time and will be back again soon.

The owners were so helpful and the local sights are just brilliant. Cream teas, zoos, bars, restaurants all at your doorstep. My only reservation is that we didn't have enough time there.

Breakfast was fantastic and the cookies under the stairs were great when you get peckish in bed ;-)

The beds and en suite were first class, as was everything else.

We love Torquay and thought we'd treat ourselves to a bit of luxury for our 5th wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked through the door we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. Our room was lovely, with tasteful furnishings and the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in! The en suite bathroom was pristine with a powerful hot shower in a large cubicle, and the towels were huge. Fresh fruit and cookies were available all day and the breakfast was truly amazing - a buffet selection with fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals, pastries and a selection of juices and then a choice of cooked breakfast from full English (with a vegetarian option) to more exotic options such as poached eggs and smoked salmon. We loved every moment of our stay and will definitely return to The Somerville!
