“What a great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

My partner and I stayed three nights at Albaston in mid Setember 2013 and I was very impressed. I understand that the owners, Dean and Richard, have only very recently taken over Albaston and it is completely unrecognisable from the time I once stayed there a few years ago. Under Dean and Richard, the standards are now very high although the charge for the room was not. The room size was very big, beautifully decorated, the new ensuite bathroom was very stylish and the big double bed very comfortable so we slept soundly.
We were impressed too with the range of choice for breakfast which was beautifully presented. We also ate twice in the restaurant in the evening and the food was really very good…fresh and cooked to perfection.
There a few other positives to mention too…the very convenient private parking, the quietness of the location, despite being so close to everything, and the excellent service offered by the owners. We go to Torquay a couple of times a year and we know exactly where we want to stay from now on.

Room Tip: We only saw our room because the others were occupied but we understand from the owners that all roo...

We only stayed one night at the Albaston but it was long enough to know that this is a very special place. We received a really warm welcome from the hosts who were both so helpful throughout our stay. Our room was wonderfully comfortable, spacious , bright and sunny and with a lovely sea view. It had all the facilities that you would expect in a luxury hotel room. The room was certainly pleasant enough to relax in but there is also a comfortable guest lounge and separate bar and so there was scope to relax here too. The location is peaceful and the availability of free parking on site is a definite plus. An additional bonus was the breakfast which offered plenty of choice and was delicious and prepared with care. All in all a fabulous place to stay in Torquay and hopefully we will stay longer next time.

Just spent two nights at the Albaston. On arrival greeted by Richard and Dean, asked us if we required refreshments( nice touch ). We were helped with our luggage and shown to our room. Spacious, modern and spotlessly clean with a modern en suite with double headed shower. The king size bed was very comfortable and the room quiet.Briefed on the time of breakfast and other rooms in the hotel guests could use. The break fast was cooked to perfection, nothing was too much trouble. Great selection of food both cold and hot options. The homemade ginger jam was gorgeous. We had dinner one evening and again were not disappointed, the food is fresh and cooked to order. There is a two or three course dinner choice at a very reasonable price. We would definitely stay at the Albaston again and have no hesitation in recommending the Albaston to others. Well done Dean and Richard.

Room Tip: Our room was the Pompadour Room

Having followed the owners Deane and Richard from their previous premises in Torquay, I knew their new venture the Albalston hotel and restaurant was fulfilling a dream - to provide even greater quality accommodation and start a restaurant in house. Five star luxury was what they were aiming for and five star luxury is what you get. Beautifully renovated and thematically decorated rooms in a contemporary but comfortable style which are full of sunshine and space with room for comfy sofas- the top floor ones have spectacular views; wonderful bathrooms with ultramodern but thankfully simple to use showers; and a restaurant that feels like a restaurant in the evening not a breakfast room with a delicious menu with locally sourced meat and tasty sauces as well as vegetarian and curry options. The breakfasts are as good as ever - best poached eggs you will ever taste. Spacious lounge and bar areas to relax and unwind in with the friendliest and most helpful hosts you could ever meet. Congratulations!

Had a wonderful stay, with the new owners Dean & Richard at the beautifully refurbished Albaston. The Observatory room we stayed in was large & sumptuous with a well stocked hospitality tray and panoramic views of Torquay & across to the sea.The new bathroom was spacious with a nice selection of toiletries. The breakfasts in the dining room were excellent, everything you could want & more. The rest of the hotel facilities were superb, with ample parking & quiet location but within walking distance to all amenities. We will definately be returning.

Room Tip: book Albaston !

We were privileged to be the first guests of Dean and Richard, former owners of the Cranborne, at the Albaston House Hotel. They’ve done a fantastic job of refurbishing the Albaston. Those who know Dean and Richard from previous will not be disappointed with the luxury accommodation this hotel now offers. The Pompadour room we stayed in was excellent. Light, spacious and very comfortable. Some of the rooms have nice views across Torquay to the sea. As usual, nothing is too much trouble for Dean and Richard in making your stay a very pleasant one from the moment you arrive to serving you their excellent breakfast in the mornings. We can't wait to try their restaurant when we next visit.
All in all, we would thoroughly recommend the Albaston for your stay in Torquay.
