“Perfect start to a short Devon holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2009

I chose this because of the rave reviews and knew the minute we entered the hotel that it was a worthy winner. The two owners were polite, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the conservatory, overlooking the bay and had a ringside seat when the hot air balloon went up and down, especially after dark as the balloon was lit up. No time for us to do that unfortunately but it looked good fun. As has been mentioned many times, the hotel was spotless, attractive and well equipped. The owners bought the hotel only a couple of years ago and spared no expense in refurbishing and building an up to the minute gem. We booked quite late so had no choice in rooms and our twin room (12) was a bit dark and dreary but the bathroom was superb and the beds were comfy. As we only stayed one night it was no problem but if staying longer, ask for another room. The weather was perfect so all in all a great time was had. Thank you.

We had a wonderful weekend in Torquay staying at the RLH. Car parking is ample, which mattered to us. The hotel is attractive and very clean and the rooms are very comfortable. It is nice that Carsten and Lee are eco-friendly, and there is much evidence of this throughout the hotel. The conservatory makes a lovely dining room and the food was very good. Carsten and Lee make it all seem effortless, which it clearly is not, and the atmosphere is very calm and welcoming. It was a super base for the weekend. We were lucky with the weather, which added to the enjoyment. Very highly recommended, we hope to be back before too long.

The hotel was spotless and the owners/staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. It is situated fairly centrally with a 5 minute walk down to the beach and, like all Torquay a 10 minute walk back up. With the sun out every day we travelled around a bit both on the moors and town visits within easy reach. We also got a bus into Babbacombe and did the clifftop walk back to Torquay, definitely not recommended for the totally unfit but a beautiful 21/2 hour walk. Tried the pool one day but it was too cold for us although some managed. We ate dinner in the hotel twice and both that and breakfast were excellent. Very small niggle was the room being a bit small but even then it had more than enough cupboard space. All in all a very enjoyable stay and somewhere we would recommend.

My Husband and I stayed at the Riviera Lodge, for a weeks holiday to celebrate our 15th wedding Anniversary. We chose to stay in the Suite, which was stylishly designed , spacious with wooden floors, 2 Brown modern leather 2 seater couches and Beautiful dark wood furniture, it also had a fridge, small kitchen and ironing board. Flat televison screen with sky programmes. ipod and Dvd Player. It was just like having your own luxury apartment. It also had nice touches as a bale of white fluffy towels and bathrobes were awaiting on our bed. The only problem we found was that the bed was a bedstead style and very low to the floor and because I had a bad back, i had to ask them for an extra matteress, which Lee and Carlsten found for us, and we found the bed incredibly comfortable.
Lee cooked us beautiful breakfasts, and Lee and carlsten were very hospitable towards their guestsand always gave the proffessional but friendly approach. This small hotel would suit couples that like impeccable service ,in a quiet and luxurious atmosphere.

From the moment we arrived we knew this hotel would be first class and we were not wrong. Immaculate decor, very clean, excellent breakfast and 2 perfect hosts. Oh and if you get good weather the pool and garden area are a fantastic sun trap. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Riviera Lodge Hotel for four nights. On arrival we were shown to our 'Standard Plus rooms (we booked a double and a single) which were exceptionally clean and fresh. Our hosts Carlsten and Lee were great, nothing too much trouble and requests for drinks throughout the day and DVDs later in the evening (occasionally) were dealt with immediately. The swimming pool was refreshing after the heat, although a tad cool!
Breakfast was lovely and not greasy and service was swift, if at times a little rushed. The evening meals menu looked really nice, although we never actually tried anything. Others we spoke to said the food was 'exquisite'.
The hotel is situated on a hill and although not far from the town or the seafront, the position may not be suitable for the less able, but taxi fares are quite cheap. (eg Railway station to hotel £3.50).
We could only stay for four nights but we will definately return here. All in all a fantastic stay.
