“Quite expensive and very ordinary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2011

Was very disappointed with this restaurant. Firstly, the lighting gave no ambiance to the place as it was very bright and unattractive. The menu was disappointing as there was no typical Irish Fare on there. It was standard fare and quite expensive. We had the combination starter for 2 which was all pre bought (chicken wings, onion rings, wedges etc) none of it home prepared. The mains were ok nice chicken but nothing out of the ordinary. Staff were efficient but not friendly. I felt like they didnt really want to be there. Not a place I would consider returning to. I've had better meals with friendlier staff in Weatherspoons

“Great food with lovely harbour views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2011

This was a real find along the harbour front. We had already tried a few restaurants, and being a bank holiday weekend we were struggling to find a table at a reasonable hour to eat i.e. before 9pm. We were greeted as soon as we entered the pub area on the ground floor and told to head up the stairs and the staff would assist us. We headed up to find a friendly and helpful man who advised they could split a table for us and asked if it would be ok that the table would be smaller than usual. This was fine with us. We were shown to our table (that was no smaller than you would expect for 2 people) and another member of staff came to take our drinks order. Another member of staff then took our food order. A good choice was offered, all freshly cooked to order and with any selection of potatoes you wanted. I opted for the Thai fishcakes with the garlic roast potatoes and onion rings. My husband went for the mixed grill with a side of the speciality Irish mashed potato dish colcannon. A huge portion of food was served to us both, my husband had a pile of meat on his plate and he hardly touched the potato being fit to burst. The fishcakes were good, nicely seasoned and leaving a tingly hot sensation. The sweet chilli dip that accompanied them was also nice and spicy. The garlic potatoes were lovely and not overpowering in flavour. I also tried some of the colcannon, again very nice. The view from the restaurant is great, overlooking the harbour and as we were there just before sunset, had a lovely view of it across the bay followed by the multicoloured lights twinkling along around the promenade as it got dark. All staff seem to have an exact task to carry out, making for excellent, organised, timely service. Would definitely eat here again.
