“Great Hotel, Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Stayed in the Penthouse Apartment, absolutely brilliant. Clean, comfortable, & very well equipped. Have stayed here many times before in the apartment. The staff are so friendly & helpful nothing is too much trouble for them. The restaurant food is extremely good, plenty of choices & well presented. Extensive wine list to suit all tastes. Thoroughly enjoyed the time at this Hotel, have booked to come back in September

We enjoyed our stay here. The staff were superb. The hotel was very clean,in fact,by the time we returned from breakfast, our room had been cleaned. We would return. Our only gripe would be the fact our room was very warm at night.

Room Tip: Rear rooms away from the road would be quieter.

We recently stayed at this our favourite Hotel, in the Penthouse apartment. It is clean, very comfortable, with views to die for. The bedrooms are well furnished with mega wardrobe space, dressing table, bedside cabinets, a flat screen TV & a trouser press. The lounge is well equipped with comfy sofas & chairs with a 37 inch flat screen TV. The kitchen also has a cooker, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, toaster etc. There is also plenty of tea, coffee, milk & biscuits that are replenished daily. The staff are extremely helpful & friendly with nothing being to much trouble. On arrival at reception we were greeted & our luggage was taken up to our apartment The restaurant is well run with with an extensive breakfast & evening dinner menu. There is a wide choice for breakfast including cereals, fresh fruit, cheese & cold meats. Cooked breakfasts are cooked fresh to order so they are served piping hot with plenty of toast, tea & coffee. The evening meal has plenty of choices, from starters, soup or sorbert, mains that include salads & dessert. This is then followed by tea or coffee with petite fours served in the main lounge. The bar is well run & well stocked which includes an extensive wine list to suit all tastes. We always stay on DBB terms but if you stay on BB you can always eat in the bar in the evenings from that menu. Lunch is served here with plenty of choices of hot or cold including sandwiches.

Unfortunately this Hotel is quite run down and not a very good standard. We booked the Penthouse and I have to say it does have fabulous views, but it ends there, it was very old, smelly and stains on seats with worn out and broken furniture in the suite and no lift. We had booked for two nights and did not stay any!! In fairness I was refunded immediately by the reception who was very reasonable, its a shame as it commands a wonderful position.

Very dated threadbare grubby and smelly. If you ever get room 17 ask to change it as the bath has a rust hole near the plug. If it was a car it would be an MOT failure. Probably dangerous and the bed was smelly and lacked springs. Almost forgot tht it's near the rail line and a lot of train noise. A truly awful hotel!

A fabulous English hotel right by the seafront in Torquay, with a good carpark area, nice entrance with welcoming reception area. Pleasant bar area with choice of drinks and snack menu. A very pleasant lounge area with evening entertainment on some nights. After dinner coffee and chocolates always given after eating in the superb restaurant/dining room with a wonderful choice of food on offer here. Food of top quality, always appetizing and hot, very nicely presented with adequate number of courses. Service outstanding by such lovely staff and nothing too much trouble. Our room had a seaview and a small balcony, it was lovely decorated with modern furnishings and pleasant décor, tastefully inclusive of drinks eg tea/coffee service replenished daily. Rooms refreshed regularly and cleaned. Easily recommended. It did also have a small pool area but the weather sometimes was on the ''chilly'' side so we didn't use it. If ever we return to this resort would always contemplate a second visit to this hotel. Very enjoyable.

Went with my mother for a weeks break to Torquay this was our first visit to Torquay for nearly 40 years. The welcome to the hotel was friendly and Tom helped me with bags & cases to our Twin Room. We were given Room 51 which was large clean & with a view over Torbay from our balcony. The road outside is very busy but with the balcony door shut noise was minimal. The bathroom was large with a good shower easy to use and had been refurbished recently. The girl who cleaned our room was friendly & was from Lithuania. We had gone Dinner B&B and found the food very well prepared and cooked & with good varying choices. Nothing was to much for staff in restaraunt Katy Ruth Fiola & the guys bent over backwards to make our time memorable. Breakfast was superb with a wide variety of cereals, prunes, cooked meats etc. Cooked breakfast was very tasty. There is entertainment Sat & Wed with Husband & Wife team The G&T's. There is disabled parking near front door and a ramp for those with scooters. The only downside is stairs as no lift in hotel though stairs are manageable. We had a brilliant time and fully recomend this AA*** Rated Hotel

Room Tip: We were on the First Floor with the balcony by the Orchid Rest 51 to 53 are all with a Sea View
