“Lovely sea views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2007

Excellent location between main road and sea so half of rooms look out directly onto Torbay. Rooms vary in size and best to select larger, refurbished room. Four course dinner is good quality and good value when taken as Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package. Staff attentive and helpful.

  • Liked — Location. Many good rooms. Good dinner
  • Disliked — Beware one or two small rooms

My husband was unable to share the break with me and it was the first time I had booked into a hotel alone which was a little daunting. The warm and freindly welcome I received from the very proffessional and immaculately dressed staff put me at my ease at once. The gentlemen sported fresh red carnations in their buttonholes
The furnishings and decor added to the charm of this super hotel which has breathtaking sea views.
I had booked B.B.D and at dining times I was greeted and served by extremely pleasant and well groomed staff. Breakfast was freshly prepared and the dinner menu choice was very pleasing and enjoyable.
We have stayed in many hotels both in England and Europe with higher star ratings but the Livermead Cliff is second to none.
If your enjoy courtesy, consideration and cheerfulness along with comfort and culinary delights , don't hesitate to book !
Congratulations Mr Mark Lockwood -Lee your hotel and staff do you proud.
Many thanks 19th-22nd-03-07

Whilst staying for three nights at the Livermead Cliff Hotel for the 2006/7 new year we were impressed by the informal and friendly manner of the managment and staff, and with the excellent cuisine and service.

We felt that we couldn't have been looked after better and really enjoyed our stay.

My wife and I stayed as part of a large group, we have found in the past that this is a disadvantage. This was not so here, we were treated as welcome individuals. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was well prepared and maintained throughout our visit. The food was excellent, served in a delightful dining room overlooking the bay, the waiting staff were very professional and only too willing to help.

Not only would we stay again, we have already booked a further stay in the Spring, when we anticipate we will have a relaxed holiday in a lovely environment, being treated as welcome guests.

We would recommend the hotel and staff to all visitors.

Stayed December 2006

Having read some pretty poor reports on this hotel, we would like to add that we have just returned from spending Christmas there and we could not fault it. The staff were helpful, polite, the food was excellent. There is a programme of refurbishment going on by the current owner who is obviously putting a lot of money and thought into it. We have stayed in other 3star hotels in Devon and Cornwall, this one stands out in its attention to detail and service.

  • Liked — The atmosphere, the staff, the food
  • Disliked — On the small side

Small, poorly decorated room. Tiny bathroom. All in need of refurbishment.

All staff were friendly & helpful.

Service in the restaurant was excellent, but the food did not live up to the service. We had a 4 course fixed price dinner. None of the courses was really bad, but none we outstanding. Better to have 2 good courses, than 4 mediocre ones.

I think they are charging high prices to finance a much needed make-over. This makes it very poor value at the moment, and unfair on present guests who are paying for work from which they will not benefit. Unless of course they go back next year, very unlikely in our case.

  • Liked — Good service
  • Disliked — Very poor room for quite an expensive price
  • Tips/Secrets — Avoid it for now
