“Weekend at the Toorak”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Upgraded to the Toorak for a change. Lovely big room. Restaurant service mostly good, Saturday morning was a let down. Not busy but just went haywire. Quality of food no better than in the Derwent but the presentation and individual waiter/ress touch is nice to have.

The hotel needs a good upgrade as people who pass through from the Derwent to the Toorak will see by the state of the ceiling and new carpets would be good, hence only the average rating, but I would like to say it was GOOD and apart from using the Derwent for our dance weekend will definitley use the Toorak again.

Had a wonderful time despite it being a cold, grey February. Very friendly, helpful, welcoming staff. Large. clean family room with sea view and nice bathroom. Plenty of entertainment for the kids - aged 8 and 10. Loved the pool, bowling and snooker. Organised entertainment was also good - kids had a free snorkelling lesson, did line-dancing and we won the family kurling competition. The hotel was 'old-style' and mostly occupied by retired couples but we didn't feel out of place and found lots to do and felt the kids were really welcome. Central position in town so could also walk to the beach and harbour. restaurant service was excellent and the food was fine - not fine-dining but perfectly OK with a good choice. excellent value for money - I'd recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: ground floor terrace rooms open out onto the garden - nice in summer.

We had a very good weekend at the toorak the evening meals were lovely.Breakfast was ok but food was not very hot also you had to wait for them to keep topping up the hot buffet that was the only thing that let the Hotel down.

My boyfriend and I did a 3 night stay as a 2 year aniversary present to us both. I hadn't been to the Tooak for 16 years, when I visited with my parents. I loved it then and loved it this time! The food was great, staff really friendly and entertainment that was geared for everyone.
On arrival, the car park was a bit full, but found a blue badge space that I was able to use and when saying to the receptionist that I was parked there, they immediately put a reserved space sign, so that when visiting other attractions, our space was there on our return.
Our room was huge, it was the opposite end of the hotel from everything, but was a good way of walking off the dinner! It was also very quite, especially on the Saturday night when a Wedding Reception was taking place.
My boyfriend has said he would like to return soon and so would my parents, so I definitely won't be leaving it another 16 years until I visit again!

This was the first time we had been offered the 'regular customer special offer break'. Superb value with upgraded room, chocs. and bubbly. Food excellent as always and staff are very friendly. Good entertainment as usual. The car parking was a bit chaotic this time, but we were assured by the manager that, when we return in April this year, that will have been sorted out.
The problem lay with inconsiderate guests who had not reserved parking, moving the cones that had been placed in designated areas for those of us who had taken the trouble to request a parking spot.

Room Tip: We prefer front Riviera rooms as they are spacious and easily accessible.

We now customarily take the 'regular customer' special break, offered at this time of the year. Super value with upgraded room and other 'add-ons' provided, making it the perfect tonic, during an otherwise depressing time of the year. Everything was up to the excellent Toorak standard , clean rooms, friendly staff, good honest 'home-cooking', entertainment - all the reasons, we return year after year ! Again, well done to everyone at The Toorak.

Room Tip: Riviera or Terrace rooms - all are spacey and with sea views at the 'quiet' end of the hotel...

We hired a room for a small gathering and were pleased with the venue, the buffet food and drink, the value for money and the happy staff. The hotel is now part of a leisure complex but ahs not lost teh personal touch. Looked at restaurant menus which also seem excellent

Thanks!
