“Wonderful stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

I don't know what we did to be upgraded at to the bridal suite, but wow, thank you Imperial! Room 110 is unbelievable. Huge living room with windows and views on two sides; balcony; good sized bedroom; huge bathroom with both bath and shower and a separate dining area with doors to our very own, large, sun roof with loungers. Which would have been wonderful as the sun shone, but Storm St Jude put paid to any idea of seeking an autumn tan.

Dinner was superb but the dining room freezing - our only complaint apart from one or two unsmiley breakfast staff. The breakfast offerings were varied and very good quality - lovely fresh fruit; nuts; usual English but with good back bacon. Coffee could be improved.

My facial in the beauty salon was a treat - but why do they leave you on your own for 15 mins while the face pack sets? At my local salon they use this time to give you an extra bit of massage. Heather was lovely though and sorted out a discount as I'd not realised that the specials only apply Monday to Friday. Do book ahead - on arrival on Friday they only had one slot left for the next three days. The gym was quiet, and airy with good equipment. Mr young-one-arm-tattood manager was very helpful in explaining the cross trainer to this older-than-usual unfit specimen and I don't think he even laughed.

Car parking is pricey - £7 a day for outside and £15 for inside.

The reception staff were cheery and helpful. Pretty much everything was just superb and I'd be back in a shot. Even if we don't get the bridal suite.

Room Tip: Can't fault, bridal suite, room 110.

Great room with a wonderful sea view. Huge bed and a relaxing atmosphere. Staff were happy to help out with recommendations for the spa therapy treatment. Cleanliness of bathroom was an issue however.

We stayed 2 nights in a double room overlooking the Torbay, the room was very clean and maybe a bit dated but this did not take away anything from the stunning views from the balcony. The food was superb but service was slow on our first night, also the bartender had never heard of Cinzano! Please dont let these small things put you off staying a wonderful hotel, beware there is a £7 a night parking fee but off-set again the views a price worth paying

We stayed at the Imperial Hotel in August 2013 with our grandson. Whilst I dislike posting a poor review on any hotel I feel on reflection that it's needed.

The hotel location is great, food at breakfast and dinner is OK albeit not great value for money but our grandson did love the outdoor pool and the pool games etc.

Our suite was, I must say sold to us without a balcony - however what we were not told was that there was indeed a balcony but it was closed due to it being unsafe and the door was permanantly locked. The furniture in our suite was old tatty and apart from the beds generally unfit for purpose.

However, our stay was definitely ruined when the hotel was taken over for yet another wedding to take place during our 10 day stay - some other reviewers have commented on similar problems.

For 2 days all reception areas were closed to hotel guests, this included all balcony areas and sitting areas etc.- everyone (not part of the wedding party - which was most of the hotel) were on the Saturday, closeted in a small part of the conservatory - with a seating area for about 30 people, keep in mind this hotel sleeps about 300 people and on that day had far more guests who just wanted somewhere to sit down - even then we had a party of 11 ladies join us for their lunch in this same area as part of their pamper weekend.

The hotel gave the impresion of being very poorly run - out for the maximum buck regardless as to whether this affects their future business or that of other Puma hotels.

We have stayed in almost all Puma Hotels across the UK and are even members of their Barcelo Leisurebreaks Club - but it goes without saying that we haven't booked another Puma Hotel since this experience.

Booked a short break at this hotel for the second time this Autumn, and was very impressed with everything.
View from room was stunning, as were all the facilities.

Food was excellent and we ate in the restaurant for the three nights we were there.

Highly recommended and looking forward to returning in the very near future.

Stayed on Saturday 19th/Sunday 20th October,,It was our wedding anniversary and we were upgraded to a suite room 410 which was very impressive, sea views on two sides and lovely views.
As for all the negative reviews I honestly cannot fault this place, food very nice, great choice at breakfast.Staff very friendly.Great location for town, only a short walk to the shops and restaurants.
We will definitely return, thank you.

We stayed at the Imperial last year and enjoyed it, even though most of the dining room staff could not understand English. We decided to try it again in August for 5 nights. Like last year we opted for a room with a balcony with sun loungers on. It was absolutely fantastic but taking in the size of the balcony, relaxer chairs and table would have fitted better. The views from the sea view room are unbelievable. A room with an accessable balcony is a must. The restaurant was a bit hit and miss. We chose to eat at 8.00pm and by that time several dishes were not available, which became a bit irritating. Breakfast was okay, a good choice of food even though the hot food was on the cool side. The Imperial was taken over in 2012 by the Puma group and it is in such a great location you cannot fail to enjoy it. The outdoor pool and gardens were lovely and well used with the weather being good. There was not much atmosphere in the evenings. The management appear to be trying hard to improve the level of service in the restaurant but still have some way to go. The room was spotless and well serviced. We will definately visit again.

Room Tip: Higher floor with a balcony with a sea view is a must
