“At home with your hound”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

The Cary Arms in Babbacombe is a delightful getaway for the whole family, including the dog! Our hound, a Labrador, felt herself to be at home from the moment she arrived with the dog treats served in the room to a gourmet dog's bowl at dinner! The walks around the coastal path are delightful and the staff were friendly and attentive. A wonderful weekend!

This is a very friendly pub which is also a hotel and what I like too was that all the staff we met were English which makes a great change. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and smiled. They allow dogs which gives a lovely homely feeling too. We had a delicious dinner. The breakfast could do with some improvement. Cheap orange juice and I would say not free eggs. The rooms are comfortable and we enjoyed our one night stay. I would point out that I think it would be difficult for people with walking issues. The car park up the very steep hill was a nightmare. Someone had parked very close to me and it took a while to get the car out and then there is the issue of turning into a very narrow space to go down to the hotel to collect the bags. But the views and clean air were a delight.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

Stayed here the night after we got married. What a fabulous place. The accommodation was so comfortable and the views from our little terrace were amazing. It was just a shame it was raining. We had a 3 course dinner on the evening and breakfast on day of departure and the food was exceptional. Would definitely like to go back one day, hopefully with a bit of sunshine though.

Found the food to be of excellent quality if menu a little limited. The access leaves a lot to be desired, the car park, by necessity, is remote from the hotel up an extremely steep hill, I feel some form of transport should be provided, any one with a mobility problem would find it most difficult.

Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at Rose Cottage which had all that we needed for a break with family and the dogs. We were made very welcome and the cottage was very comfortable. However, this is definitely not a place for anyone with the slightest mobility problem - I have never seen such a steep hill! We would have spent far more time in the pub/restaurant had the hill not been such a problem but unfortunately someone in our party had become unwell since our early booking and just couldn't manage the climb back up to the cottage. Having said that the staff were great and on one occasion even gave that person a lift back up in their car (but we really didn't want to trouble them more than once). It would also have been helpful if the garden had been a bit more enclosed (even if just chicken wire through the bottom of the hedging) as we were quite worried about letting the dogs into the garden when they could have got out onto the road, but just a minor quibble; wonderful walks for them from the doorstep and stunning views over the headland.

We spent 3 nights at the Cary Arms with our 1year old and had a truly memorable experience that we couldn't recommend highly enough. The food was superb, the seating areas catered for cosy by the fire or outside to enjoy the stunning views. The room we had was spacious and comfy and we loved the little touches like the sloe gin in the room, great to end the night with! The staff could not have been more helpful, especially with our child. A little piece of heaven in Devon!

Wow what a wonderful weekend which was a birthday surprise for my husband. We really enjoyed every minute despite the weather, as did our two cocker spaniels. Jarvis and Lily loved the bowl of treats on arrival and they loved having their own comfortable beds. Everyone was really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The crab sandwiches were delicious and the Brixham fish was amazing. The room exceeded our expectations and the views were amazing. I cannot fault any moment of our stay. We have booked to return next year and would like to thank everyone for their attention to detail. Fingers crossed for sunshine next year! X

Room Tip: They all look amazing!
