“Late Break for my wife and myself , nice hotel , good food , nice place .”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2010

Hotel complex very spacious , lots of activities , food is excellent breakfast and evening meal, some of the tables rather close together , better this year , last year we were next to the main walkway , not very comfortable and too close to the next tables . The bedroom this year was better and had more room than last year , previous room had wash basin in the bedroom , not good . Have stayed at the Derwent 3 times and twice at the Victoria , I have considered other hotels but cant find another to compare with what is available at the hotel and its surroundings , also in a good place for the centre of Torquay . Would go there on any visit to Torquay .

My parents & their friends have used this hotel for a number of years, as they are bowlers, & the hotel has a fantastic indoor bowling green. We have never been to Torquay before, so decided to give it a go as our usual lodge in Cornwall was far too expensive this year.
The room was basic, but clean. It had everything we needed. The facilities are amazing. Lots to do for every age. We were amazed at the restaurant. The breakfast & evening meals were fantastic. The staff are very friendly. You could tell by the way people were greeted that many of the guests are regulars. The hotel is joined through passageways to 3 other hotels, & you are able to use their facilities as well. The hotel is only a 2 star, maybe because the room was a bit outdated, but the facilities should definately be 5 star. We can't wait to visit again.

The hotel was of poor quality, shabby carpet ,dreadful beds if we had needed the fourth bed it would have been impossible to have slept on it as it could have collapsed at any moment.!! Having said that, however, the food was great and the service that come with it was good too !i am only glad it was a weekend stay and not any longer.
The only other downside to our particular weekend was that i had a small amount of money stolen from my purse which was on the bedside table-during the half an hour we went for breakfast- and the room had been serviced.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I was made aware of the claim that £3 had been taken from a purse by one of my Duty Managers. I am sorry I did not have the opportunity to meet with you.

All of our housekeeping staff have been with us a substantial amount of time. This is true of the majority of the 120 staff that work at the Derwent Hotel.

We take guest security seriously; in the last two years we have invested over £30,000 in state of the art bedroom locks that enable us to print reports of all entries into a rooms.

I have not had any other complaint of this nature regarding the housekeeper that serviced your room on the day that the alleged incident occurred. We will of course be duly diligent and record the incident.

I have noted your comments regarding the beds and will have them checked again. Were beds are found to be faulty we would look to replace them immediately.

We have an ongoing programme of refurbishment and upgrade in our bedrooms and public areas across our resort. This will continue over the coming years.

As a family owned complex we value guest feedback. Thank you for you positive notes regarding our food and service.

Kindest regards

I took my 12 year old son to the Derwent Hotel, part of the TLH Leisure Resort, for three days over the August Bank Holiday. I booked what I thought was a low budget break in a two star hotel as we were going to be out most of the time. This was anything but a budget break. The hotel generally was very clean and tidy and all the staff seemed very helpful and attentive. The food was better than expected - full buffet breakfast and a three course meal in the evening with fresh water on the table and coffee to follow. Our en-suite twin room was basic but it was clean and comfortable and included tea and coffee making facilities, tv and phone. The resort is excellent - with so much on offer for everyone, young or old - and is a short walk down to the lovely seafront. We shall certainly return.

My daughter and I really enjoyed the stay, the room was large and clean and the children loved the bunks. They also loved the pools and the entertainment in the evening, the staff were great with them. The children are aged 4 and 2 so the soft play area was another plus. We visited Paington Zoo and The Living Coast over the weekend which were wonderful.

Recommended to this hotel by family and now we recommend to others.
This hotel is one of four on the same site which interlink. 3* and 2*. We needed an adjoining room for our 15 year old daughter who has special needs. We were given two rooms down a very short corridor, which were adjacent but the doors were opposite each other. Ideal for us as this is the first time she has had her own room. The entry card worked both doors.
The rooms had very worn carpets and dated interiors but were clean and the shower had been modernised.
The hotel was clean and well organised. The staff that we dealt with, mainly eastern european, were polite and attentive.

We had booked half board and for two stars, I wasn't expecting anything special for dinner. However I was surprised and delighted with the quality, presentation and flavour of the food. Choice was good too.

For our wedding anniversary, we eat out at a local fish restaurant called "Ocean". Well worth a visit if you can bear to miss the good hotel food.

The facilities were suitable for all weathers and we took advantage of indoor and outdoor pools and the spa treatments. The entertainment in the available venues was suitable for all ages and types and the staff engaged with the patrons well.

Location is convenient too. All in, great value.
