We were attending the Kit Car Show at Exeter and, as usual, we decided to make it a long weekend. Premier Inn was offering a great deal and, because my previous stays at their hotels had all been excellent, we booked at their Torquay hotel for 3 nights.
The day we arrived was an anniversary of our first date (and I'm not prepared to say just how many years ago that was but it runs into several decades!) so I had phoned in advance of our arrival to see if there was an especially nice room we could have. (Although I had often used Premier Inns when I used to work away from home, this was my husband's first stay and I wanted to make it a good one!)
We were delighted to find we had been given a top floor room directly looking out across the bay - the view was stunning and the lights at night were beautiful. The room was warm, comfortable and very spacious. It was spotlessly clean.
The only downside was that my husband has a Blue Badge and the room was quite a walk from reception and the disabled bays - there was a lift though. I hadn't thought to mention it when we booked so it couldn't be helped.
The service was absolutely first class and the breakfasts were very good. We ate out at Bianco's - a favourite Italian restaurant of ours - the first night but in the Premier Inn's restaurant on the two other evenings and the food there was very good and excellent value.
We'd seen that Fascinating Aida were appearing at the Princess Theatre and had booked tickets at very late notice but the Premier Inn staff were extremely good and were able to fit us in and serve us quickly enough for us to get there in time.
This is a lovely Premier Inn; right on the sea front and not far from the shopping areas and local theatres and the Riviera Centre. It's a large hotel but it works extremely efficiently and with a great deal of friendliness so it still retains that special Premier Inn service.
