“Amazing, clean, contempory B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2011

We stayed for 1 night, wish it was more.... we were in room 4 a suite and to say that we were impressed is an understatement. The bed was huge, the room was huge , included a seperate living area with a sofa, fridge, and 2 flat screen tvs !!! .. The bathroom was immaculate, a very powerful power shower in a lovely glass sliding door cubicle... The whole building was decorated to a very high standard. The bed although wide , just seemed a little short my husband is 6ft and his feet hung off the end, it was though very comfy. I would love to know what the towels and bedding were washed in as they smelled great . Breakfast was just as good. The whole night was great and we will be returning.

The hosts were very welcoming and attentive to our needs. It was a very clean and ordered hotel with all amenities required for a stress free stay. The room was an up to date contemporary design and the hotel was situated in close proximity to all the delights available in Torquay. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful which means that we did not go away feeling hungry.

This was our third time of staying at The Briarfields. Seems its just like a good wine .. getting better with age..Pete and Trish greeted us upon our arrival, and offered us a pot of tea after our long Journey. We were in shown to our room by Pete who offered to assist in taking our bags to our room. The room was not the normal one that we have stayed in before. but was of an equal Quality, with great powerful Shower and again the fantastic bed. ( best nights sleep for a long time). Breakfast was as always, spot on. We made good use of the new help yourself fresh coffee machine in the dining room.
We were grateful to Pete who recommended diffrent restaraunts we could try in the evenings. we look forward to going back to Briarfields in the near future

My wife and I decided on this hotel based on previous Trip Adviser reports and photographs of the hotel. We were looking for something upmarket and modern and we were not disappointed. Peter and Trish were certainly what you would expect of today's idea of the effective hotelier. Friendly, knowledgeable and communicative, they made us feel welcome from the moment we walked through the front door, and this feeling continued throughout our entire stay. I would have no hesitation in recommending Briarfields to anybody considering visiting the Torquay area. Excellent food and superb accommodation only added to the enjoyment of our stay.

My wife and I didn't care where in the UK we went to get away from the kids for a weekend, and we ended up in Torquay purely because we liked the modern, simple look of Briarfields and the reviews it has received on tripadvisor. Our expectations were pretty high. And we weren't disappointed.
After a four hour drive it was lovely to be greeted at the door by the owners, Trish and Pete, who welcomed us with a pot of tea and friendly faces.
We booked room 4, which is a suite, and it was ideal. The bed is huge (6'6" wide) and there's a separate living area with a surprisingly firm leather/suede sofa plus a fridge that Trish keeps stocked with fresh milk and bottled water. Although there's no bath in the en suite in which my wife could relax, there's one of the best showers we've ever used. The whole place looked brand new with high-quality fittings and furniture, and was spotlessly clean thanks to Trish and her team. My grandmother would say the décor was bland; we say it's neutral and simple.
There's just a short window of opportunity for breakfast (8:30 - 9:30) but our cooked breakfasts were tasty and cooked-to-order. There's a fresh-looking selection of fruit too.
Briarfields is on a road that looks quiet on Google Streetview, but in reality it's a pretty busy route. The windows did a fine job of keeping out the noise when shut. Parking would be a bit of a squeeze for ten large cars but it's off-road and free. To get to Torquay's centre for restaurants, shops and pubs it's a pleasant 25 minute walk that takes in the grounds of the abbey and a park. We did the walk about four times in our two day visit and got a bit bored of it in the end! A taxi back to Briarfields cost £5 on a Saturday night.
The overall experience was excellent and I hope we'll return the next time we get the opportunity to leave the kids with their grandparents. The owners of Briarfields were relaxed, helpful and friendly without seeming intrusive or nosy. The fresh flowers, free tea & coffee, fresh milk and bottled water in the room, and free wi-fi may be small gestures but they contrast with my experience of most hotels that make me feel as though I'm being squeezed for every bit of cash in my pocket. And all this for room rates that are very reasonable indeed. Thank you Trish and Pete. Hope to see you again soon.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night at the end of February. Staff were very friendly and a homely B&B feel. Breakfast was good. It is quite a walk into the Torquay centre but the weather was fine to walk.
Overall very impressed and if returning to Torquay, we will stay there again.
