This month my wife and I went on 4 night coach break with David Urquhart Travel, to Torquay and stayed in Cavendish Hotel on Scarborough Road & Belgrave Road. The hotel is situated not far from the sea front, near and the town centre ,about a ten minute walk.
We had a double bedded standard room, which had a shower , toilet , television and although not very big it was more than adequate, it was a little tired, but it was clean and so were the beds, a very important requirement in any hotel
I would like to add, that this is a large hotel, with a work in progress refurbishment program going on, which in no way affects guests comfort , (no noise etc ) with some 30 rooms already completed, unfortunately ours wasn’t one them, but you do have the opportunity, providing there are vacancies, for a small charge of £5.00 per person per day, to upgrade to a superior room , which are like small flats, having a bathrooms, large size beds, large flat screen tv easy chairs
tea making facilities, lots of wardrobe space, draws and either a garden or sea view, very good value in Torquay.
The breakfast consists of various cereals, fruit juices, toast, a cooked full english ,tea or coffee and is waiter service. There is a choice of evening meals with soup, main course ,sweet, cheese & biscuits, which change every day and whilst being rather basic they are well cooked and are adequate, this also is waiter service.
There is a bar in the entertainment lounge, with very reasonably priced drinks and three nights, there is a twenty minute bingo session, followed by some form of entertainer.
There is a indoor heated swimming pool, a games room, television lounge and plenty of
comfortable seating throughout.
I would like to stress that over the last two years or so, they have spent somewhere in the region of £150.000 on this hotel, but you won’t see a lot of it because £100.000 alone was spent on upgrading fire precautions , as it’s no good burning to death in a well decorated room, but as I said earlier this refurb’ is still ongoing.
As a final comment, I would like to say ,that the staff are pleasant, helpful and if you do have any complaints, go to the reception, please ask for manager and he will endeavour to rectify
your problem, as soon as possible, don’t go home disappointed, there’s no need for that.
This four night break from Sheffield only cost £153.00 with David Urquhart Travel, well
Worth the money.
