After reading some excellent reviews both on TripAdvisor and around the web for Bistro One we decided to pay it a visit for an evening meal and we were not disappointed.
Whilst the roadworks (now gone, but there at the time) put a bit of a damper on the street's atmosphere it's not something one can fault Stephen and Bistro One on, and whilst the adjacent scaffolding obscures the place somewhat it's nevertheless easy to find.
We were greeted and tended to throughout the meal by Stephen, who is knowledgeable, friendly and a great host. He was happy to advise on any questions (such as how best to have the Oysters), and enthusiastically helped us decide on the wine from his eclectic and well researched array.
The food itself was very tasty and you could tell the produce was fresh and lovingly prepared. The seafood meze included some of the best Oysters, Mussels and Prawns I've had, and the mains were similarly cooked to perfection. In addition I had a cheese board, which surely had some of the best examples of local West Country cheeses I've had. Given all that, the price is very reasonable and much better value than you'd find elsewhere in the city.
If you're in Plymouth and are looking for a nice meal then do take the time out to visit Bistro One, you won't regret it!
