Gutted really gutted, after some afternoon reminicing decided to go here for dinner, this was the best restaurants in plymouth in the late 80s, fab food, great atmosphere fantastic waiting staff, headed by Andrew i believe the owner was called... it was a long time ago, Now run by his son Alex whos the spit of his dad, Went in at 8.pm, the place was empty and stank of dead animals thanks to the very outdated practice of displaying the meats, yuck looked like the counter at bence the butchers, not what you want to see, while consuming your dinner anyway little disturbed by the lack of customers,, there a recession on, i know, decided well we are here lets give it a go, menu is a 80s replica, retro section, dont make me laugh the entire menu was the same as 20 years ago, still thinking well if i remember it well they cooked a damned good steak, remembering my ex-husband eating a 24ounce steak and dropping it in his lap haha, ordered the chefs speciality fillet steak in a sherry and cream sauce, very now! not, waiting in anticipation what veg, parsnip crisps, panfried red cabbage,,,, peas,,,, no do you want chips or rice... w.h.a.t you have to be joking this is your speciality, drab drab drab, husband had a mixed grill, it was ok, mine was something my mum could knock up on a tuesday, onion mushroom peppers in a cream sauce, bit of boiled rice, yes it was as exciting eating it as reading it.now service came in and waited to be seated, was sat right next to the only full table considering the restaurant being empty thought we might get a choice, removed my coat and had to put in on the bench seat beside me, tried folding in front of waiting staff but alas no offer of hanging it for me, water on the table ,no, placemate or table covering no, toothpicks, cutlery anything? The entire meal was accompanied by nice background music,, hell no. the boss working out what fish they will need for tomorrow, paying some young chef and telling one of them to clean down the kitchen, not once did he look our way, say hi, or even is your meal ok?, at this point there was only one other table of customers there, my goodness the previous owner always came around the tables and showed an interest in his customers, well recession or not we are some of the lucky people who can afford to eat out regularly, go there again, not on your life, food dull, atmosphere worse and customer service... was there any?
