“Best resturant on the Barbican”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I love this place it does not matter what day or time it is, you always get good food and the staff are something else.I do not mind having to wait for a table, but now I always make sure I book before as it is always busy.

“Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

We've arrived here by change - and what a good luck! We took several fish dishes and enjoyed every each of them. The place is quite small and very crowded and the waiters might seen rude as they are in a constant rush. For us it, was a delight and they were very helpful - they even gave us tips for a great breakfast next morning! Definitively we'll come back!

“Delicious seafood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Four of us went for a meal in Platters and were very glad that we chose this place. We weren't sure about the decor and what the food would be like but were very pleasantly surprised. I had the fish pie which was really nice comfort food - just right for a rainy, windy night in Portsmouth. The others had the trio of fish which was nice. The chips, mushy peas and bread were an added bonus to what was a very tasty meal. We did feel rushed at the end as we did go in towards the end of the service and staff seemed keen to close up and head home. I did feel disappointed by this. In hindsight, if I were to go again, I would go earlier in the evening or check with the staff that there is sufficient time for us to have a leisurely meal (although I would have expected them to tell us if they felt it was too late for us to come in).

“Top quality fish and chips”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

After visiting the gin distillery we walked thru the barbican and found this place. Nearby there were 2 other fish and chips shops with no customers but Platters was almost full. A very wide ranging menu with generous sized serves. Two of us struggled with our medium fish and chips. One had fish pie and rated it highly. One had mussels which were fresh and tasty. Nice cheap drinks are offered. All in all a good place for a quick lunch.

“A warning shot to a much loved favourite.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

Have enjoyed coming here for almost three decades. Have enjoyed the atmosphere, the unpretentious feel and the generous portions of simply cooked very fresh fish. But things are going awry. Attention to the treatment of customers even recognised long standing regulars is unpredictable and unreliable. The cooking seems to depend quite a bit upon which of the chefs is working and the mood. As the weather gets colder so it can be quite chill sitting at the front and back when the doors are left open. The waiting staff always seem to be working hard but often seem to leave customers either waiting ages for service or to pay or just to know whether they have been noticed. Platters remains a very good, possibly the best, fish option on the Barbican but there are failings. Prices are high and customers deserve better service. Take note or your core trade and reputation will seep away!
