“Staying in room 32A”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

I was staying in room 32A, a large room on the SE corner of the hotel by the road junction.

During the evening of Friday 29th March 2013 as from about 10pm I suffered the terrible volume of noise of a live band playing at the Thistle Pub opposite. This went on until 1am Saturday morning. During this time I went down to the reception to complain about both the level of noise and the duration that it had gone on for. The reception staff were all too well aware of the problem. Apparently the pub keep the doors open so that the smokers outside can hear the music....Yes, the staff were deadly serious!

Shortly after 5:30am that same morning that i had eventually managed to fall asleep, about 1:30am, after the Thistle Pub band episode, I was rudely awoken by the noise of a large lorry which had parked up directly below my room, and which was very noisily delivering several clanking cages of linen into the hotel.

Firstly whilst I can accept that Premier Inn have no direct control over the matter of the Thistle Pub, i do think that they should complain to the local council seeking a noise abatement order, as the level of the music was most unacceptable. Leaving the doors open for the smokers is just ridiculous! Surely this would also cause the ingress of smoke into their premises, thus breaching the Non-smoking laws? Also Premier have a duty to their customers to explain the likely consequences in staying in their room 32A.

Secondly Premier offer a guaranteed good night's sleep. Clearly this does not apply to room 32A; as the fact that the regular early morning laundry delivery, at about 5:30am is under their direct control; which means that they could or should do something about it: Again Premier have a duty to their customers to explain the likely consequences in staying in their room 32A.

I have concurrently written to Premier Inn to explain my concerns and welcome their response.

Room Tip: Think twice before accepting room 32A?

We stayed overnight last Friday, we have also stayed at the Premier Inn next door, Sutton Harbour.

This is a small Premier Inn on two floors, only around 60 rooms. We were on the 1st floor (by request), up the stairs (no lift) and at the front of the hotel which is away from the busy road outside and so very peaceful.

Our room was exceptionally clean and contained a 47" (approx?) Samsung flat screen tv on the wall which is great, all very modern.

The restaurant is outside and across the car park, which isn't brilliant in heavy rain, as last Friday and yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed the all-you-can-eat breakfast which is wonderful value at £8.25 per person. We thought that our meal the night before in the Table Table restaurant was adequate but nowhere near as good as the restaurant in the Premier Inn next door. This restaurant at Lockyers Quay is perfectly adequate, but it is worth noting that it is busy busy busy with the general public - fortunately during our stay all of the restaurant staff seemed to work hard and provided excellent service.

So, it would be difficult to say which of these two excellent Premier Inn's is best. We would be very happy to stay in either of them. In fact when we next stay in Plymouth we will look no further than Sutton Harbour/Lockyers Quay.

This was our first visit to any Premier Inn, and Lockyers Quay was first rate. The room was very clean, modern, and well fitted out. The breakfast and dinner were excellent! What more can anybody want? As they say, everything is premier except the price!

Had a lovely stay hear again. Very friendly staff and a brilliant location for the best sites in Plymouth. Slight issues with the fire alarms but staff resolved this with a satisfactory resolution swiftly.
A good night had every time with the room heating and good water pressure in the shower.

I was placed in Room 32A, a large room on the SE corner of the hotel by the road junction. Shortly after 5am I was awoken by a 7.5T lorry belonging to Cornish Linen Service which parked directly outside the room. They were noisily delivering several cages of linen to the hotel off a tail-lift. No chance of sleeping through that. Delivering at that time is no doubt convenient for Cornish Linen Service but it wasn''t appreciated by the occupant of Room 32A.

This was a shame because there are other aspects of this hotel which are outstanding. All of the staff I spoke to in the hotel and restaurant were pleasant and friendly. And if there is a hotel in the whole Premier Inn chain with a better location, I'd like to stay there too - right by the harbour, ample free parking and a short but fascinating walk to the Barbiacan, Plymough Hoe and the City Centre. Very easy hotel to find, as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the harbour (West) side of the hotel.
